yes but everyone at that time everyone thought china was god awful and would never win a game internationally.
there are so many games each event where objectively neither teams are the favourites until hindsight
masters madrid, before the tournament Gen G and Sentinels were the favorites and they delivered
I think geng vs sen final in itself was kind of an upset bcz majority had geng winning it
yeah probably but in my opinion it was top 1 vs top 2 and it was a close 3-2 so it wasnt THAT much of a upset
gen.g were not even considred to be top 4 coming into the event.

Look at the betting odds as this gives an indication of what team people think is most favoured and from this you can easily tell that they were not considered at least top 2-3
well then the odds were kinda free because everyone who watched APAC knew gen g was AT least top 2 lmao

KC and loud and sen were considered above gen.g, and it was 50/50 between gen.g and prx for 4th
my top 4 was literally sen gen g kc prx, if you had loud anywhere close you dont deserve to watch valorant anymore lol

Also u don't reflect the populist opinion which is the opinion that decides who the favourites are.
geng was considered one of the worst teams in apac pre kickoff and that narrative didn't change as much coming into masters
