Hello cat knowers, is there a certain way to befriend a stray cat so I can get him back to health? He has ticks and wounds and I must heal him

I usually just lure them to the outside of my house or garden with food, leave a bowl and water. I have a veterinarian that comes to my house to treat my dogs/cats and sometimes if there are strays nearby he treats them too. Catching them to take them urself might be harder but if you leave them food in a secure place theyll eventually go there.

He’s starting to come every day now. He’s still a bit timid but I’m gonna get him some treatment if I can lure him into something.

treats and food, try not to appear like a threat by making yourself smaller. If you can try to get it from eating from your hand that would be good. If you’re really worried about it you could call an animal control service to see if they would pick it up and treat it

I wouldn't try to befriend stray cat, he tends to produce high pressure air beams that hurt quite a bit
Unless you plan on beating down a psychopathic serial killer this is not an idea that I'd seriously consider

On a more serious note, #9 is right, approaching him cautiously, potentially with food, is the first step. Know that you must not force anything if he refuses to interact with you, be patient and comprehensive and this way it might work out.
Once the hard part is done you really should go to a veterinary, explain them the situation, find out wether he had owners who you could contact or not, and get him examined by a professional. They will know what to do next and will make sure that he is healthy

Food is the number one way to attract a dog/cat, if its near your house, you can put like a food bowl close to your house and when your not nearby the cat will naturally come and eat from it (dont get too close to the bowl and dont stand, you might scare the cat away). and eventually it will treat the food as an easy to get resource that even if you are nearby or standing it will still go for the food and then eventually you will earn the trust.

also if you dont know how to get rid of stuff like ticks properly, please go to a vet

good luck

As someone who has 3 cats currently, 5 if you count those living with my nan.

You should buy some dry cat biscuits, and kind of make a trail to you, like, get the cats attention then start throwing them (calmly, on the floor, right next to you) then keep walking back and putting them to you so the cat gets closer, and when hes close enough, sit down with your legs crossed and put them on your lap, so he eats near you, which is a sign of comfortability and will make a mark in their mind that

you = food
which they like :)
