if so the team that reaches the lower bracket will never have the chance to be #1.
Apart from picking their opponents, they directly qualify for playoffs skipping the Swiss stage (which is a great opportunity in my opinion).
Well upper bracket winner teams haven't lost a match so it's justified but where is the justification in going out in 1st match
because one of them will still qualify for Shanghai and is an equal candidate for the trophy. Just an upper + lower brackets format.

Lower finals indeed could've just been a BO3 since it doesn't have qualification implications but grand finals is for extra championship points and a playoffs spot in Shangai.
