For the last few days I've been hearing this low humming noise in my left ear when there is no noise in the room.

Is this permanent? Will it get worse?
It's fine now but if this becomes higher pitched or louder it's gonna be really fucking annoying

Iā€™m not sure. Do you have those yearly checkups where they check your hearing? I do here high pitch noise sometimes too

No I don't, but I can just rock up to the local clinic and ask if it gets annoying enough for be to go through the effort of driving there

There are some liquids to bring down the pitch of the sound but you have to use them daily and no there isnt a cure for it yet. You have to live with it for the rest of your life. I have had very mild tinnitus since a young age but it didnt affect my other activities but I do have keep listening to music or ambient sounds while doing normal work so as to not focus on it.

Avoid exposure to loud noise, and always wear earplugs to concerts etc. Also see a doctor if possible, tinnitus does go away in some cases. If it doesn't, well you'll first need to accept that its going to remain their for the rest of your life. I got it around 8 months ago, it was very annoying the first 3 months and I used to keep trying to make it go away by some tricks I saw on internet, then one day I just got fed up and accepted that it'll remain there. The next day it started fading away (its more of a brain problem than a ear problem in most cases except the inner ear ones, basically your brain registers it as a threat and you keep hearing it), its been a long time since it started fading away for me and its nearly completely gone now. I do hear it when I gey stressed sometimes but otherwise its not even noticeable in complete silence too.

As someone with tinnitus since 2021, if this has been happening for over a week be ready to accept it's going to be something you're going to live with. There is some therapies you can do that help you to tone out the noise but personally haven't tried them. Best advice I can give is mask the tinnitus sound with other sounds at a similar pitch especially when sleeping because it can be pretty annoying to sleep with tinnitus. There are some stories of people having their tinnitus weaken or disappear altogether so that can be something to look forward to.

Mine went away (or has nearly completely disappeared too). Doc told me it depends on how you got the tinnitus in the first place.
