"Guard got bodied at Masters"

GOD FUCKING DAMN if I hear any NA caster say that again, then I might just go insane.

Yes the gaurd lost at masters. Bodied? BODIED? DESTROYED? No fucking chance.

They lost to PRX over 2 maps. A 13-10 and a 13-8, not too close but nowhere near bodied. It took neT having a really, REALLY bad series to lose by just 3 and 5 rounds. This same Paper Rex squad would go onto get 4th in that Lan, and then place 2nd at the next global lan while pushing the best team to ever stroll out of EMEA (at that point) to 5 maps.

Then, there is the OpTic series. 3 Maps. They still forced 3 Maps against Chet and FNS. 13-7 to steal each teams map pick, then an 11-13 loss on map 3, fracture. And, to re-run everyone's mind on, this is the same Fracture that OpTic revolutionized and used as their win condition for M1 and most of the next split. The same comp that teams would still use up to the chamber nerf. That Fracture was only rivaled like the Guard did by XSET in the NA finals of split 2, a 14-12 win for optic. The first time the comp lost was to DRX in M2, then PRX in M2. That Fracture 13-9'd Xerxia, 13-5'd Zeta, and 13-2'd LOUD, in the same tournament. OpTic had to do an amazing comeback to win that map as well.

What I'm trying to say: NA Caster Braindead as fuck, who would have guessed. Also wanted to throw a little more respect to Guard since, if that's getting bodied, then damn. Every team got BODIED to the point of retirement at some point where they dropped a map 13-6.

I agree this narrative that they got destroyed at master is ridiculous they could easily beat optic that day but their inexperience costed the maps.

agree
the narrative is kinda old. THEY HAD TO REMEMBER that the guard almost won fracture (leading 12) and just choke. it's very close score

anyone with a brain who actually watched Optic vs The Guard knows it was literally only LAN inexperience that caused them to lose. They had a FUCKING 10-4 LEAD ON FRACTURE. They choked because of LAN pressure after Marved aced against them. thats literally it, that's all that happened.

Paper rex actually broke G2 and the Guard for a bit after the master. Actually pretty proud of that.

Paper Rex didn’t break shit lol, the guard was “broken” because they last to optic on fracture after being up 10-4

Had high hopes for the team which they under performed at their only vct lan event to date.

But yeah this flopped at Iceland narrative is getting a bit snore mimimimi

Would rather hear about split 2 or lcq

LCQ was definitely not a flop, Stage 2 was though. The Guard really got bodied by the meta changes in stage 2

Nah. They did get bodied especially at the first lan they did. Don’t try to dance around it. They were grouped no? Basically got a participation award.

Guard is a very good team, the underdog of NA challengers 1 but don't know what happened to them after the lost at LAN, they even lost to tier 2 teams at Mickey mouse tournament but after stage 2 they did decent at LCQ and also now split 1
They lost to top 1 and 4 at masters 1, no reason to shit on them, they only lack LAN experience

tbh true they were a marved ace from winning against optic tbh

They just got Experience diffed there nothing else and as you said, nowhere near being bodied.
A three round differential is what I would consider a close game.

Imagine coping so hard.
They lost 0-2 in an international lan.
When they were the no.1 seed of NA...
And none of those games were close like you make it seem lmao.
They got heavily outplayed by paper rex.
Not to mention after that lan, they fell off so hard, losing to NA teams they shouldn't be losing to.

Other than their first game where they beat Zeta, didn't G2 do basically the exact same thing? They played mid the rest of the season and kinda fluffed out in the LCQ. G2 also lost to PRX by 1 more round and weren't able to take a map off loud. I know FPX was supposed to be #1 seed, but one could also say the same for OpTic lol. G2 and Guard basically did the same thing over the 1 year span.
