Is more important when it comes to discussing how great a player is? I personally think that both have heavy caveats and that certain players are individually propped up by these arguments by more than they should be. By Major Wins I mean like Masters and Champs.

rating doesnt mean anything if u dont win but if u win your rating doesnt matter
i think their name matters too like if their name is "whzy" or "nephh" or "zmjjkk" or "chichoo" or "s1mon" they should automatically be considered top 10 in the world

This is my stance as well, imo the arguments are used a lot because they are very accessible and allow you to make a point without having to actually look into the topic. I do think they provide some value like you said, but only if you give context.
Shame that like 99% of arguments discussing how good a player is are "X has this many trophies" or "this guy's rating is top 3 in this tournament" then lol

Hmm, I think that would be fair. Personally, I would give the goat status to Alfa if they won champs last year.
i wouldnt mind, alfa's insane performance during 22 at istanbul and hearing his home country cheer for him was memorable af for me knew he was destined for greatness then
The truth is that the game has no defined greatest of all time because a player has failed to meet the peak of individual performance, individual accolades, and tournament wins. If we ever get a player who is considered one of the strongest individuals OAT and has won multiple times in different periods than I would say that individual would be the greatest. The esports scene hasn’t been established enough to have that imo
I think that's a good view as well. I think that's why there are so many names in contention rn when goat status is brought up. Personally, I think currently Alfa is the closest, but I think it's very close and I could easily see others choosing someone else.
VLR rating unironically, you couldn’t convince me Kiles is a better player all time than Trent
I think the trophies argument is hella overrated, but the example you used is a very large extreme lol. Trent is one of the best players ever to have never won anything and kiles is one of the worst to have ever won anything. Let's look at the other extreme, someone who won 2 champs trophies, but had a very slight lower rating than someone else. I would easily take the person with 2 champs trophies over the other dude assuming no context (although I don't think context would sway my opinion much in this case lol).
I think even if you had a more meaningful contributor to a trophy, like jaw for example, I would still not take jaw over Trent all time
