buy their way in is ridiculous but there is definitely a solid portion (maybe 20-30% of players) who get chances based on old name value and nothing else
You have to realize we are comparing the top of T2 vs the worst of VCT, we already knew that most of these VCL teams are good enough to potentially ascend so the fact that they are able to perform against the struggling or dead teams is not really a shock I think for anyone that realizes we are comparing the best of one to the worst of the other. If we threw the mid or lower VCL teams in here they would get ROLLED
I mean it kind of is a shock, even the worst team in VCT is supposed to represent the best players in the region, if you are losing to teams in a league below you then there's something wrong and that's surprising to most people, you would never expect the best college football team to beat the worst NFL team that's just a proven fact. Also it's not like the tier 1 teams losing are at the bottom of VCT, there are a bunch of mid to higher end VCT teams losing as well. Teams like TH, NAVI, M8 lost in the EMEA side and RRQ lost in the Pacific side to tier 2 teams, none of these teams are the worst of the worst in VCT.
you are comparing college to pro which doesn't work you are not eligible to be in the other if you are in the one so there is no overlap which VCL has MANY players with VCT experience. Also named 4 teams that are indeed bad, they struggled for 5 matches and are very unlikely to qualify to a international which means they are weaker teams of their own region. We can discuss semantics of who is the worst but acting like a team that would have likely been in a qualifying match to ascend with their own former VCT players beating other VCT players is not really some sort of revelation these are the teams that ascension teams previous years/splits have also beaten up also half the teams in these playins in all the regions are legit the ascension teams because they also are not strong when going up against the best in VCT and are playing to beat the other play in level VCT teams as well
It’s like when Trust in Plug beat 100T in the off season or when MITH beat SEN at SOOP. People were shocked that this even happened in the first place because no one thinks that a tier 2 team can just beat a tier one team like that. Also just because a team “struggles” in the league doesn’t mean that they are the worst of the worst like you said in your original post. The teams that I listed that have lost to tier 2 teams all have at least 2 wins in their league this split, some even with more. Compared to the top dogs sure they are a little bit weaker but that doesn’t mean they are complete shit. Also there’s no telling if these teams would’ve even ascended in the first place and even if they did how well they would’ve performed. Look at a team like M8 when they ascended for the first time they were not good at all despite being “the best of tier 2”.

SEN lost to a team full of players who just lost Ascension grand finals and now once again are best in their region or half of full sense who ASCENDED INTO THE LEAGUE. You cant even begin to discuss the nuance of APAC and promoting players because many players have language barriers. I never said they are "complete shit" I said they are struggling or dead teams which is true after this VCT split many of these teams will kaboom and disband and kick 3/4ths of their rosters regardless if they lose to the playin teams and they probably know that. Also yes we can tell we are watching it live and have been watching it in their own leagues. Just because you dont watch their games doesn't mean they just magically are super shit and there is a major gap between the best of VCL and the worst of VCT

Sure they might've won 2 games in their first regular season but why are we saying this like they won anymore the rest of the year? they literally only beat KOI after that stage. The big difference between the two years is that M8 was not competitive at all against any of the top teams except for TH that year but this stage alone they were able to put up a good fight against BBL, VIT and FUT.

If you're talking about 100T then you are just completely wrong, the team isn't full of players who "just lost ascension grand finals", not even half of the roster was on that TSM roster. Even then both of those ascension players weren't even the highest performers on that team during that game, we just ignoring the fact that both of them are at the bottom while asuna drops +22 and cryo is +17?? Also where tf did you get this "half of full sense who ASCENDED INTO THE LEAGUE" the only person from that tier 2 full sense team currently on the active roster is seph1roth.
