i hate lars von trier. every cell in my body hopes him death. mostly because of how he treated bjork.

von trier is a piece of shit who made like two good movies
gaspar noé is a good shout but not close to top5, people like denis villeneuve, bergman, tarkovsky, kiarostami, hitchcock, wim wenders are all better, and that’s just off the top of my head

subjective take and subjective taste but i respect your opinion, denis definitely up there though i agree, incendies is my favorite from him

it feels like recency bias but denis has quietly put together an insane resume. Haven’t seen dune 2 and don’t plan on seeing dune 3 just yet but that trilogy looks like it could easily become one of the best in cinema history, if it isn’t already

I mean, The Room is probably the most well-known here. The Room is notorious for being dubbed "the worst film ever" and memed upon. Atlantic Rim was a pretty funny knock-off of Pacific Rim. Ratatoing was a knock-off of Ratatouille. Animal Farm literally missed the whole message of the book. But the last one is layered since it was directed by Peter Rodger, who was the dad of Elliot Rodger, the 2014 Isla Vista attacker. The film itself was pretty bad despite having some serious names involved, like Hugh Jackman

Yeah but you must remember that there is probably a very small portion of vlr-users who are deep enough into cinema-lore to get this stuff. 90% of people probably still think the USA is the only country for movies to get made in.

That's true. Especially since action films almost always take place in New York or California. If it's really pushing the limits: London or Tokyo get mixed in for that "international/global attack"
