was it really a terrible meta when it was shown that double duelist(yoru neon iso raze) was strong as well against tejo, and the team that uses it indeed won the masters?

It wasn't terrible, just boring when used correctly. The "Park the Bus" of valorant.

Postplant:
Get on site
Plant spike
Tejo runs main
first tap, 2 missiles
2nd tap, Tejo ult
3rd tap (if you get to that point), another big ult or damaging util.
win round.

For exec:
Breach stun backsite
Tejo missile where breach stunned
free kill with nearly 0 counterplay if you're a senti.
or he can drone you and kill all senti util/Stall util

For defense:
He gets missiles and a stun for god tier, 0 skill/effort stall
An OP ult for trap plays with his missiles
and a way to reclear site should he have to retake.

He was good without sacrificing much of anything which was just annoying.
he essentially had a dog, a stun, and the best postplant in the game which was rechargeable.

His skill floor was a trampoline that bounced you to the ceiling.

i mean yeah, i feel like if the tejo "meta" goes on some team will get inspired by T1 and uses double duelist, then beats the "meta"

my point is, double duelist was just as strong, people just lazily copy the tejo breach comps

Yes, that's why he was nerfed

Tejo was just as good as 2duel while also not requiring as much skill. Valorant was also just coming out of a double initiator meta, so the transition to Tejo was easier than transitioning to double duelist.

Tejo and Double Duel were both really strong. But Tejo was easier since more teams had the roles needed for it rather than 2 duelist players like T1 (BuZz/Izu), or PRX (Their entire fucking roster -d4v4i). Most teams had players built around the 2 init meta we've had for years. (G2 with Jonah/Trent, EDG with Nobody and S1mon, VIT with Trexx/Kicks(kicks can smoke as well, but still) ), The list goes on...

But if Prenerf tejo exists, theres no real reason NOT to run him. Because even in a double duelist meta you can just say "What if we run Double duelist AND busted postplant agent?" Which fun fact, t1 DID on Abyss in the Bangkok final (https://www.vlr.gg/449011/g2-esports-vs-t1-champions-tour-2025-masters-bangkok-gf/?game=202794&tab=overview)

Tejo as an agent wasn't worse than 2duel, just worse to watch...at least 2duel is fun

it was "overhated" because it was awfully oppressive and infuriating both to watch and to play against, which isn't the case for yoru

It was a good watch though yoru is just boring and somehow less skillful

It exposed the limitations of a 45-second spike defusal timer and 40s signature refreshes in rounds that last 100 seconds

Tejo's current design philosophy is actually compelling though, being an initiator who frontloads all his power into non-refreshing utility, so that he is strong in short rounds and weak in longer ones.

If he got some minor buff to put him in a similar position as Skye (scan-alternate who is never really necessary but frequently viable) I think it'd be healthy for the meta

Tejo got unfair treatment, no other broken agent got nerfed as fast as Tejo
