The level is low enough that someone who farms GC won't be considered anything special because they are playing plumbers
GC players get paid more than average T2 players (I think),
because of these two things:

  1. GC players don't want to take the risk to jump to tier 2
  2. Tier 2 teams don't seriously consider signing GC players because of poor talent evaluation

This is probably all common sense, but we are at a point where competent GC players should consider joining a coed team for 27 so that they can qualify for internationals and compete at a T1 level. The level of gc doesn't seem like it's going up

GC barely even has orgs

It does make sense though; the league doesn't have any direction and it's already impossible to profit in esports. Riot thinks throwing more money at it will fix the issue, but icl i don't see it

yes GC isnt gonna help with getting talent to t1 anytime soon. i dont think there is a clear solution though

I think the upper echelon of GC players have to realize this and start taking risks/joining T2 teams. The problem is finding T2 teams to sign them though. its a weird loop

Gc is just pointless I can't even lie. As a trans girl myself I am all for including people of marginalized genders into the esport, props to Rito for that...but like...just encourage them to play in tier 2 and get to the top? Don't make an entire circuit dedicated to them which has a far lower player level. Like, The minimum rank required to play is ASCENDANT. It's not that girls are bad at Val, but the skill ceiling in GC is MUCH lower than the one in VCL.

You want to show any gender can do it? Put them in tier 2. They aren't going to be signed as often, but that's just because of the player base. Same reason women only make up 11.2% of the construction workforce, or why men only make up 25% of the therapy workforce. It's not because they can't but because Most just wish to do something different and theres nothing WRONG with that.

Yeah, this is exactly the issue: the fact that the floor is so low makes it so that even the best GC players who, on paper, should be able to compete in T2 aren't taken seriously because they are playing worse competition. At the same time, I do feel like there should be more instances of GC players who are at a higher level publicly pushing and trying to join T2 teams (I could be tweaking, but I can't remember the last time someone did this). At the very least, it would make it so that tier 2 teams at least have some GC players on their radar, and GC players will start to feel more comfortable striving to play higher-level Valorant because they'll see that there is a viable pathway.

Thats the change Riot did for 2027 IIRC

I think the 2027 format solve that. Riot announced GC team will earn point in Open Qual if I remember correctly. So GC roster will be forced to take T2 seriously, and the playerpool of GC is decent enough to hope, to do good in OQ. With that new format, I think in 3 years we will have our first GC team participating in in the "closed qualifier / Partner stage" in T2, maybe earlier if KRU Blaze decide to play in LAN wish is slightly worse than LAS. If they are 16 teams in Partner stage in BR or LAS, GC team may even qual directly.

They are a 2nd possibility that everybody has forgotten, in 2026 they are 4 status for a team :

  • Main team (Important in 2027)
  • Acedemic team (Dead in 2027)
  • GC team (Still here in 2027)
  • Mixed team (3 GC at least), it's not confirmed if this kind of team will be allowed next year. But if Mixed team are still allowed, the only way for a partner team to have 2 Acedemic player to nurture, it will through that status. I could imagine in 2027 Roster with 3 GC player with 2 -17YO player, with the only goal is to qual into partner stage (And cup with a miracle), Can a Mel + Flor + Bob + 2 Males have a chance to make top 16 in NA with the push of a huge partner team ? Potentially. I think Riot could push that kind of things

Game Changers is doing their job in helping marginalized genders be able to play in a professional setting, with org and viewership support to back it up

it's not exactly pointless if it serves it's purpose of producing a GC player that is skilled enough to compete in challengers who knows in 5 years that wouldn't have the chance without the support that GC brings, we are already seeing teams like Liquid and SRG making it to challengers so the goal is to have multiple teams playing in challengers with the possibility of them being competitive

I think you’re misunderstanding my point, the fact is game changers inadvertently encourages players from marginalized genders to stay in the league because of comfort and perhaps salary when they can, and have the ability to play in higher level VALORANT.

I’ll admit that Shopify and liquid are good examples for teams being nurtured through the GC system into challengers but I’m talking more about players who are statistical outliers not getting tier 2 opportunities. Idk about using GC viewership to back anything up tbh because it’s not really good, and the lack of orgs if anything seems to be proof that it’s not sustainable
