They acting like they weren't the ones who assigned him the label as the "American Football Savior" despite him probably never wanting that title or pressure in the first place.

he was literally labelled "the lebron james of soccer" the expectations were probably thinking he'd be like messi/haaland/mbappe scoring basically every game.

In short, because he's the United States' best player and he didn't have it in him to even try to play a full 90 minutes in this World Cup

He played the first half against Paraguay then subbed off to rest because his calf felt tight from training before that match. He then missed the entire Australia game and then went back to training for the Türkiye, but he didn't start and only played half an hour near the end. In the Bosnia game he played most of the game but then got subbed off late, which is fair. Then early in the second half against Belgium, he was taking a shot and kicked Tielemans in the back of the foot, then started limping for a couple minutes and got subbed off... and that was his entire tournament

It's not like he's unhealthy or unfit or anything, he just had a tight calf in groups and then kicked a defender in the foot in the round of 16. As a result he's only played 224 minutes (two and a half games, essentially) in the five they've had... and he's also ghosted in most of them, his only goal contribution being an assist against Paraguay

Landon Donovan was with Tim Howard (two of the greatest US legends) and he was talking about Pulisic and how he's really soft. He mentioned how back in 2014 and prior World Cups the US had a much tougher, eager-to-fight team, and how it was practically a source of pride and honour to get knocked down and be hurt and to keep going instead of asking to get subbed off like a coward, and how the team would essentially bully each other into staying and fighting... the US national team is the complete opposite of that now, where most of the players are extremely soft because they're kids of rich parents and came through America's youth systems that are pay-to-play and gatekept from the middle class, and that they don't have the passion or pride or determination that, say, the 2014 team had because they care way more about club football. This is especially true with Pulisic, who's very easily affected by injuries, no matter how minor, and has created drama and expressed disinterest within the national team multiple times already

I have friends who follow the USMNT passionately and they're all really upset about this guy, especially considering he's their best player despite all this nonsense
