Spent 8 hours on CSGO with some of my mid-high ranked friends yesterday

Honest opinion :
Great game considering it came out like 10+ yrs ago and it was THE game that gave momentum to professional eSports
It was really good for something so old. Extremely repetitive tho. My friends kept asking me to throw the same exact smokes every round. Maps are mostly good but some are really trash. What's all the hype about Dust 2 I found the map really bad. Valorant maps are much more balanced (except Icebox). I loved the mechanic that smokes can extinguish mollys. Loved the train map. Gunplay felt weird coz I'm used to precise tap fires and not crabwalk sprays. Don't get why they allow friendly damage in CSGO I killed my teammates like 5-6 times coz there are no enemy outlines so I kept confusing Ts and CTs. Graphics are shitty but that's understandable since the game is 10+ years old.

Overall - it was pretty fun although I wouldn't play it as much as I play Valorant. There's not much room for creativity or new metas in CSGO.

P.S. The AWP is fucking broken wtf !!!! I'm a decent OPer but with the AWP I felt like a god....it's basically a marshal but with 1-shot capability.

Are you saying you bought CSGO prime ? or play ranked against bunch of bots ?

I used a friend's account. I have no idea how the whole faceit or CSGO prime thing works so I asked them to set it all up for me beforehand.

I was a CSGO player before Valorant. I enjoyed it despite the rubber bullets being annoying. I tried going back after the beta and I just couldn't enjoy it anymore. Getting a good play in Valorant felt amazing, a very engaging experience with the abilities and comps. Csgo suddenly became bland, a 4k wouldn't spark a single molecule of dopamine, and every rubber bullet felt twice as demotivating.. I quit for good soon after.

https://thebusinessofesports.com/2021/12/14/2021-league-of-legends-world-championship-brought-in-over-73m-viewers/
According to a recent press release from Riot Games, the 2021 League of Legends World Championship set a new personal record for esports viewership. The final match of the tournament between EDward Gaming and DWG KIA saw peak viewership reach 73.8 million people, representing a 60% increase from last year’s tournament.

In early November, the viewership data website Esports Charts reported that over 4 million people watched the 2021 LWC finals match. However, that number reportedly did not include statistics from Chinese audiences.

October was an incredibly successful month for Riot Games and League of Legends. In fact, in a statement released by the company following the launch of the League of Legends‘ RiotX Arcane event, the organization announced that 180 million active users played League of Legends in October, which was a record number for the video game publisher.

curious question. how do you judge good and bad map design?

#27
indi_getrektson
0
Frags
+

you don't really, it comes down to opinion for the most part. Imo Siege has worse maps among the tac fps. And only a handful of csgo maps are good imo (inferno, overpass, cache), the rest may be worse than Valorant maps, except for Split lol

#31
titanwithpp
1
Frags
+

Siege does not have the worst maps, the game is played with almost 85% of the map being destructible and that is why they have way too many rooms and also drone holes. Siege while being a tac fps is different than your CSGO and Val which is why their maps are good for the game. Some maps are just bad in R6 tho.

#34
indi_getrektson

as I said, it probably comes down to opinion :) I did not enjoy most of those maps. Consulate was decent tho

#35

Bank, consulate, old chalet, villa are really good but one map that is just bad is coastline (bomb sites are almost easily accessible to attackers.

#36

how long did it take you guys to learn the maps etc? I tried R6 years after it was released and was totally lost, didn't know where people could come at me, always got killed from some tiny hole or from some roamer lol

Edit: fixed a typo

#39
titanwithpp
0
Frags

I had like 492 hours and I knew many possible angles and drone hiding spots and cheeky points to camp at when defending. A month of being away from the game and I could never top the my old self and if I try to go back now I can't learn it in a few days because the maps have changed a lot. I think if I tried then a month is what it'll take to fully get back but honestly its too much work.

#62

"I knew many possible angles" -> "I know a lot of cancerous spawn peeks that shouldn't exist and I like bullet holes"
thankfully bullet holes are gone now tho at least lol. But this is the direct translation to normal speech in 2018 or so.

#72
titanwithpp
0
Frags

I was scared of spawn peeks because in higher ranks it was common to fuck up the window from weird points so I generally played hard anchor and knew angles on the sites.

#33

in cs you can get banned for up to a month for griefing, also you get kicked mid match and banned if you do too much damage. So people don't come back right away to throw more matches. CS is literally doing fine when it comes to this imo. Riot can up the penalty for team dmg if they want, idc, but I hate that there's no team damage

#46
juno_VLR
2

great, so i can play 4v5 instead of getting repeatedly team damaged!
or get banned for a month for being brain dead and accidentally team damaging someone else!

#47
Sem1-
0
Frags

have you played cs? Based on your response clearly not, team damage in not a problem to be concerned with in cs and I don't see why it would in valorant

#48
wisawis

Frags

Valorant has like 30 more or less abilities ( in team ) that could cause damage .
Phoenix molly, raze shells, brim molly and alot more. And you said
" I don't see why it would in valorant "
You think with this handful abilities, you can avoid accidentally damaging your teammates? In pro-scene it could be debatable, for high-ceiling games. But in ranked? unrated? hell naaahh, maybe if Riot can come up with a good idea about it but now i dont think so.

#49

#69
wisawis
0
Frags

You're dumb af, just like what i said if Riot comes up with a good idea about it then it should be good. Because friendly-fire would just be another reason for toxic players to throw the game. And also " are people in your games literally running into your mollies and nades killing themselves? In my 500 hours nobody ever did that " Not because it doesn't happen to you it also doesn't happens to other people.

  • players can purposely damage their teammate
  • and players can purposely walk into mollies and nades just for the players to get kicked ( like in CSGO )

Get out of bronze before talking about any skill ceiling mens))
Team killing will bring more bans and poor ranked experience for others, ty rito for this decision.

#77
Sem1-

Frags

The game isn't punishing enough, you can double peek poorly and get away with it just because you are free to shoot though your teammate you can also shoot when you are blind without a care about who's around you, if bronze is your limit then you would be hard stuck silver in CS

Idk I just liked the concept of trains lined up and being able to climb up on them
Maybe I liked it coz it was a new concept for me
What map wud u say is the best tho ? I'll give it a try
P.S. I liked Inferno and Nuke as well

#65
idkbro
0
Frags

Mirage is a good map but its so puggy every1 knows how to play it and it has been in the rotation the longest of all current 7 maps so for me its boring af but for new players you are gonna find super fun, inferno is great, nuke is great but requires a lot of teamplay and good understanding of rotations + very ct sided so dont recommed playing it in pugs, vertigo is great imo specially for pugs, havent played ancient but seems really fun, overpass is not a bad map but is the other team is way better than yours you are going to get fucked and dust2 has some issues but still fun since its an aim heavy map

#67
dexter000111

But all my friends told me that everyone hates Vertigo and it's the worst map ever so I didn't play it. Will try it myself tho

@dexter000111

Don't listen cs:go insecure frogs. Just trust me bro. I ve played 1.6 on my zoomership also have 1k hours on cs:go. By the time it was a nice game.

So, comparing to Valorant I like the old soft and smooth cs engine. Period. After 2 weeks I played Valorant consistently, I came to cs:go and then couldn't play this shit anymore. Valo>cs let's speaking fax

#79

I think the hype around dust 2 is because its a really old map

#84
piccaso18
0
Frags

CS is best when you watch pro matches, you'll see creativity there
Dust 2 isn't hyped, it's just been there for a very long time
The hyped maps are vertigo inferno nuke and to some extent ancient
And yeah cs kinda feels bland after playing val for a long time, unless I'm playing coordinated cs with a stack it's boring
All in all, i think cs is the best spectator friendly esport out there, easy to understand, superb casters, and the game has reached extremely high skill ceiling so you'll watch the best of the best ever
