it is really just based on how you play the game, if you are like me and try to go from nothing to something (snowballing) by winning gunfights and ratting you can very quickly aquire top gear, but then of course if you dont get that top gear you can be stuck at the bottom for a long while trying to hit it big, or then maybe your in a group of like 4 and you guys go to cargo ship or oil and loot the locked crates you can get AK but there is prep involved and risk, and then there is always crafting AKs which no one really does because it takes a very long while to get and the odds you get raided in the night after grinding are pretty high lol. this is kinda the main reason why rust is fun because there are many different ways to play, you can even RP which is pretty chill

If not Maya X you can always choose the Maya, the X version is like the smaller version of the original. There is also the Lamzu thorn, for palm grip users, if you would like.

im looking to get my masters or at least honours in my field and go from there, unfortunately getting a bio bachelors is usually not a gateway to a job but a gateway to another degree, but when you get your second degree your in good shape job wise, compsci I cannot say the same lol.
