Forum culture is dying and nobody uses them unless they use a software and they need help then they use the help forums for those tools, but an actual Internet forum is unheard of these days, everyone is either on reddit or discord, yet this site is soo addictive.

No brainrot.
No doom-scrolling.

Just a fun forum that actually feels awesome.

it only feels this good because of the members themselves being so active and engaging, seeing familiar faces gives a sense of community and a sense of belonging that other places of the Internet can't replicate anymore.

what do you feel like are reasons that VLR.gg is soo active and feels soo good ? (or just your opinion on the forum in general)

I get what you mean for discord and tiktok but isn't reddit a forum too?

i mean it has the same recommendation algorithms as the other social media apps, and the feed is curated, which doesn't feel nice, also the interface has changed from forums to social media feeds aswell.

yeah but reddit has an algorithm that is designed to keep you on there - this is a more ‘pure’ forum

  • there are likeminded people (people who enjoy valorant and especially vct)
  • there is something to be won by interacting (upfrags, downfrags, recognition by others) which undoubtedly leads to dopamine
  • it’s less personal and more simple than twitter and discord, which (possibly subconsciously) lowers the barrier to post/comment (and also leads to more baiting)

You're right, the shared passion and gamification stuff is what makes it work. A new social media platform(ofc focused on a specific niche) should keep it simple and focused on one thing while adding just enough rewards to keep people posting without turning it into social media.

i think a forum like this only works when it has a specific topic around it, like this one. if it was broad and about anything and everything, there would be so much chaos for users especially (just imagine all the posts, and all the posts you dont care about). An algorithm gives people what they want, with the benefit of them using the platform for longer, and therefore generating more ad revenue.

that is true, i was referring to building forums for specific topic aswell.

i mean there's already plenty of sites to brainrot to. we were gathered to focus on one topic, VALORANT. if you plan on doing something else, you better gtfo.

Exactly my point, the fact that you're even replying proves the point. You've become a recognizable name by just being active and now people know your takes, which makes others want to build that same recognition. It's wild how fast you can go from random user to community figure just by posting consistently, and people either love or hate you for it which honestly makes the whole thing more engaging.

Also you don't make any money, so your responses are more spontaneous over trying to craft a persona, which adds to the authenticity.

when i had around 300-500 posts there was a most popular vlr users tierlist made by cloudberry, i thought i would be in it but there were a bunch of aussies who i'd never seen before in it but i wasnt

and then i realised.... i needed to be in one of them

then i became a degen vlr bum

Ngl i think vlr in itself is kind of bad but the alternatives are reddit and twitter so vlr is the best option

I mean if it's better than the alternatives then it's good enough by default. When the competition is that much worse, being the best option available is all that really matters.
