Watch your local region EMEA Americas APAC or China then watch the end of the year champions (basically just the Major) find a team you enjoy watching then slowly expand learning what agents to play on what maps and how their utility works (i'd also suggest watching some youtube for this Teets, Airen, and platoon are good for game breakdowns and for storylines watch Commend)

edit: commend has a video explaining the format of the VCT so you should watch that

watch VCT Americas (your region) and pick a team to root for. after that, watch the other leagues in the following order: EMEA, APAC, China. EMEA is stacked, that's why you should watch it first. APAC and China have a lot of coinflip teams, so I wouldn't recommend watching it before the others.

You can just spam watch games and find your favorite teams off that.
There is a youtube channel that does edited match highlights called Daily Valorant that is pretty good for keeping up to date without wasting too much time watching every game. You can also find documentaries on youtube from creators like Commend to get up to date on team storylines.

Quick guide to notable teams and regional leagues:

  • AMER: big drama region, but honestly no clear regional gameplay identity
SEN which are the most popular org thanks to former player TenZ.
G2 are known for their highly coordinated teamplay but have a lot of haters.
MIBR is the last hope of Brazil.
100t is a bit of a meme team, and most of the brazilian/SA teams fell off besides MIBR.
NRG are known for falling short of expectations each year.

  • EMEA: characterized by overall slower and smarter gameplay with some exceptions
FNC is the most successful team this region produced and are pretty universally liked, known for a super slow defaulty playstyle.
TH had a crazy good 2024 but choked every grand final and are currently trying to hunt for a trophy.
TL made some good roster moves this year and look decently strong, also pretty fun to watch imo
I'm not too invested in this region overall tbh

  • APAC: my favorite region to watch thanks to it's generally fast paced and exciting gameplay, also the most competitive region IMO.
PRX are the regional fan favorites and the most recent title holders, known for their hyper aggressive W-gaming playstyle.
GENG, T1, and DRX are Korean powerhouse teams, with GENG and T1 both having international success recently.
DRX frequently chokes and places 5-6th to the point where its a meme.

  • CN: team deathmatch every game, weakest region but catching up quickly
Used to be a 1 team region with only EDG being internationally competitive, but other teams are catching up starting this year
Notable rising stars are WOL, FPX, and BLG.
