I mean it is similar but def not the same language

I have never studied Portuguese in my life yet I can probably understand about 60%, specially if written. That being said it also happens with Italian.

that is because of things that has happened since the renaissance pre renaissance they all would have been similar

also due to geography i pretty sure there are mountains ranges separating spain from france and same with italy seperating it from france so a lot of trade would have have happened with spain and italy causing them to be similar

Well from Spain and Portugal you can get to France by boat just like you do to Italy. But you're probably right, big part of Italy used to be part of former Spanish Kingdom Aragon, even tho Aragon spoke Catalan which is also pretty similar
