L Riot. There was a change that flyquest could have had the full Eg world champs roster or their new one and replace Eg in the league but it failed due to Riot denying. And only due to that. Eg wanted the acquisition to happen.

Good read and another good piece by anonimotum.

EG obviously wanted to exit esports, recouping money selling multiple franchised spots across various esports.
Riot are pretty much paying EG to stay in the league at this point (if the skins/stipends cover the costs)
Probably something to do with riot's disdain around selling slots (inadvertently or not)

I’m honestly a little amazed at how stubborn Riot is with the whole “selling slots” deal.

The org doesn’t want to be there, Valorant esports fans don’t want them to be there, but for whatever reason Riot forces them to stay. Strange.

They probably just don't want to create precedents where orgs can de facto sell their slots. That's also why they didn't want another org buying the Guard roster at first. Essentially they have now created a precedent that going forward, any org can pretty much just sell their slot by simply refusing to sell the partnership contract. Allowing EG could possibly (not saying it necessarily would) open the gates for more slot selling scenarios which would destabilise the whole partnership system.

Obviously it still sucks that the EG roster was broken up and they now have this budget roster. I don't necessarily think it was a "wrong" decision per se. Should have just never let EG into the system in the first place.

"While the latter (FlyQuest) put great efforts into entering the league and went as far as securing facilities and offices for their potential new roster, (...)"
damn flyquest, they really believed they were in I guess

I wonder, is there any clause that would punish EG if they failed to field a roster? like maybe riot gains something from EG going bankrupt so they just wanna force them to continue their operations hoping they lose more than they gain, or it's just a power move by riot trying to show that they were serious about not selling slots despite the whole guard fiasco

My hatred for Riot just quadrupled holy shit, Boostio was still gonna go though but I’m pretty sure Demon1 and Ethan were down to stay.

If riot allowed eg to sell their spot to FlyQuest, what’s stopping other orgs in VCT from doing the same. This would literally be LoL all over again. And believe me, we don’t want that! Some of you guys that are complaining about riot decisions are really close minded and not thinking about the future.
