The advantage of leaving it ON is that when the enemies are shooting through smokes you can tell where they are by the tracers. It also helps to see where your spray is going (Odin, Ares benefit a lot).
Might wanna turn it off if you have low FPS, as it can be taxing if there's like 6 players shooting through a smoke
