objectivity and subjectivity in music both have very important roles in determining who is the best

some artists are objectively better than others, but past that point, it is subjective on which of the top artists are really the best.

thoughts?

Sure, you can use culinary arts as an example. The 3 michelin star Eleven Madison Park is objectively better than McDonald's. Someone may think McDonald's tastes better but there's no denying that EMP is of higher quality. The Ingredients and presentation are important but the passion and creativity of the chefs is what really sets it apart. They didn't just make food to increase profit, there's MEANING behind that food.

Think it's more that objectivity is using a metric to decide what is greater or lesser when it comes to music. A Mahler symphony or a Chopin ballade is going to be "objectively" better than a rap, rock, metal, pop album using most musical standards, but when it comes to personal resonance and enjoyment it might differ among people.

tl;dr don't let "objective quality" take from the personal enjoyment you get from listening to music

I actually do agree with this to an extent music with better mixing and production value should in theory be objectively better than something created in a bedroom.

Wow, frankly even from RickyIndian I was hoping for a more intelligent take.
Please explain to me how any song is objectively better then any other song

i disagree.

Since it's objective you will be able to empirically be able to prove that then?

You obviously can't, even if majority of people like kendrick lamar more then lil pump, that isn't what it means to be objective.

how do you objectively rate music? what would be the standards? I can't think of anything that really makes sense. Objective ratings to me feel utterly meaningless because you decide whether you like any given piece of music based on your own taste which in itself is just some function of every experience and sensation you've ever felt in your life (which would naturally be different for every person).

I think that attempting to objectively rate any art is just a form of seeking validation or superiority. Just enjoy the music that you like.

ah yes, all my homies only listen to the likes of Bach, Tchaikovsky, and Beethoven. Because that's objectively the best music out there

I go to parties and start playing classical european music, people tell me to turn it off? I don't understand why don't they want to listen to my objectively better music

objective by what metric? you can form "objective" criteria but your choice of criteria is subjective in nature
my "objective" criteria for music could be how much cowbell it has, and the more cowbell a song has the better it is
most people would disagree with these criteria, but again, the criteria are subjective; just because people tend to agree on a set of criteria doesn't make the criteria objective (and with music most people DON'T agree on the criteria when you really talk to them)
