I commented on a different thread about one of my songs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIZsbyuVx0Q
which is like a folk song sang in a language I invented for the fictional world I'm creating, which is pretty nerdge stuff already but some people got interested, so I'm making this thread to talk about it so the other thread doesn't get too polluted

edit: just posted a version with english translations now so you guys can understand what the song is about xD

what did you start with? Was it the song, the art, or did you write first?

I had been developing this language and its universe way before this 4 song EP, so I had plenty of the setting fleshed out.
For this song, I gathered plenty of melodic ideas, then I wrote the base lyrics in english and portuguese and then I translated into my language, making some adjustments so the syllables and rhymes would fit the melodies (this part was very very hard)
I drew the artwork later on, based on the aesthetics I already had for this culture and also inspired by the lyrics which talks about adventure and stuff

I can only imagine the pride and internal satisfaction that you have from all your hard-work!

How got you into making this world?

it really warms my heart to see you guys enjoyed it, normally when I talk about it IRL people don't quite get the idea :p
I had a passion for fictional worlds since a kid. In school I always tried to apply what I learned creatively, so like learning about climate in Geography class made me want to draw maps. Learning about wars and events in History Class made me want to imagine my own nations and conflicts. With time I compiled these ideas into one single project

How do you even make your own language, also leave the translations here so i can use them as codewords or new passwords

haha if you wanna check out my dictionary to grab some words for passwords here's the link https://conworkshop.com/dictionary.php?L=VDV
sorry that it's kind of a weird website :P and the vocabulary is pretty extensive

making a language is very hard, I didn't know how to start in the beginning either, but that inspired me to study linguistics in depth so now the process is pretty clear, I won't get into detail but basically you set some gramatical guidelines for a proto-language and simulate its development over time just like a natural language would evolve in the real world, by defining sound changes, compound words and things like that, until the language gets complex enough to become functional

I'm baffled, I have dick ass and all other things :0
I just updated it so that the plural for egg means balls, which would be "buhb"
funny cause "buhb" is pronounce almost like boob

Are you creating a fictional word to write a novel?

#17

my initial idea was actually to tell a story through music, writing opera-esque symphonic metal concept albums haha
but I got so into the world itself that it became the main artistic product
one day I'll still write this concept album but the world doesn't depend in a single story to come alive imo

that would be a dream, I need to work on marketing myself better for that
I'm currently 20 years old, studying programming in college and working as a Data Intern, but I really think producing soundtracks would be a job fit for me

holy fuck i love this, it's a wonderful idea
who's singing it in the video? also i see u can register on the website so what is this website exactly?

I made all the project by myself, so I played all the instruments, so yeah, that's me singing haha (with 16 layer of vocal tracks to produce this epic choir sound)

conworkshop is a very niche website for language creators. It has some unique features, but also its design is kind of a mess so I don't even know how to use all of its features haha, but since I have all my vocabulary in there already, I still use it.

this is a lifelong project I never intend on stopping because it motivates me to wake up every day. I have been kinda slow on progress this last year, but recently I decided to make a website for my world and that has motivated me a lot to get back on track
and thank you so much, haering all this positive reception has made my day!
