Playoff seeding are so dumb

PRLV

PRX can get top 3 at the tournament without facing any other region than EMEA
meanwhile we have not 1 but 2 matchups from same region (FNC/FPX and OPTC/XSET)
Even if KRU wins vs OPTC, we may see KRU/LVT in upper semis
if GLD wins vs PRX, all EMEA upper semifinal confirmed

The worst part is that it's this bad almost every single time and Riot never does anything about it.
Wish I had the job stability of the Valorant Competitive Format team, if I screwed something up this many times in a row I'd have been canned 2 tournaments ago...

+1 tired of always seeing JP vs Korea and LATAM vs BR

agree. format sucks. all regions are competitive w each other, why should certain teams get higher placing? looks like some of the group stage teams could beat some playoffs teams.

Could we imagine a format where every team would have to face each other

And the one who won the most matches gets crowned winner ?

the seeding make sense (NA and EMEA vs 2nd seed) and team from the same group not in the same bracket. group A fucked the bracket bcs optic not topping their group

Surely they could put the group without NA vs Xset, and the group with NA vs Fnatic right?

But the group with Optic is higher seeded then the other group. Why would XSET deserve it to play against the lower seeded team, when they are second seed behind Fnatic

why does EMEA deserve to be first seed? I mean NA did win the previous international event.

thought that happened based on last season, not just last tournament. Same way Riot decided the amount of teams each region could send, based on last season

if optic isn't the best team in their group then they aren't. Thats not really the issue here. my question is why was XSet even set up against the same group that has Optic in it? Why couldn't riot have given XSet the second team from group B thereby guaranteeing XSet would not be playing Optic in the first round? The risk is unavoidable with EMEA because they have three seeds with two in groups, so short of putting both EMEA teams in the same group there is no way to guarantee FNatic wouldn't be playing an EMEA team. But, unless I'm mistaken, the bracket can be built in such a way to avoid that risk with every other region.

It definitely can be. If optic gets out of groups then this will be the third time we watch them play xset in a month. It’s just boring. I remember in m3 all three NA teams were in the same bracket. Like wtf.

It is annoying to see teams from the same or similar regions playing each other so early regardless of the reasons.

just send 1 team of each region then, this is top 8. Top 8 of any sports tournament has same region matchups. Because those regions are often just better an go farther in tournaments, its about quality not cute nation differences

all EMEA teams are on the same side of the bracket bro no matter what there will be 2 EMEA teams at the lowers

Yea that's how it can work if the higher seeds don't win/lose their matches, it happens at a World Cup or CL.

I agree that same-region matchups are guaranteed to happen. The issue is that it is happening this early. I think the point here is that at least from the outside it appears that this instance could have been avoided even when considering seeding. Cross-region matchups are typically more interesting even when they are one-sided, and it sucks that at least one region will be eliminating eachother right of the line when a simple swap could have avoided the risk.

Its already top 8, that's not early. It just feels that way because there are not that many teams. The simple swap trick would nullify all reason to have seeds, which brings a bigger issue with it because why would you even care in qualifiers then.

But also people are overreacting because OpTic isn't even guaranteed to win.

I feel like it is perceived as early because this is the first point in the tourney that two teams from the same region even COULD face each other, but yeah in the grand scheme you arent entirely wrong.

I don't understand how placing XSet against the #2 team from group B would nullify seeding unless you are contesting that the groups were designed with differing strengths in mind. If you are that is fine, but given that the number 1 seed from Korea and the #2 seed from EMEA were in group B, I feel it isnt unreasonable to argue that the groups were built either randomly or with an attempt at even strength. Maybe there is something I am overlooking? I would love to hear your persepective.

and yeah you are 100% correct on your final point. If Optic loses then none of this matters.

Masters format is so dumb. The first game in stage is in playoffs doesnt make sense... I dont see a World Cup with 8 teams already in playoffs.

I think they started doing it that way to increase the value of seeding matches, but I agree its not a great solution.

When you play a Masters, a international competition, that you can qualify to playoffs without play against other region teams is a joke. I would like 2 groups of 6 for example, and all the teams in groups. I prefer to see 4 international matches or more in the Masters than seeding games in the same region that it isnt attractive.

I promise you and I are on the same page. I was only pointing it out because the whole "its a seeding match so we dont care" narrative was getting extremely old. Hopefully there will be a better solution in the future because I too would rather see all teams start at the same level.

Should still be the 16 team format.

At this point, Riot are the only ones who like and support the format...
