It is 100% more mentally demanding than most conventional jobs. I mean name one job that requires you to be fully mentally focused for several hours a day. Surgeon is the only example I can think of. Most physically demanding jobs or office jobs are pretty easy in that regard.

10Γ— effort that a gamer does

I've worked a couple jobs and they were all so much easier lmao. As a professional gamer you have to focused during pretty much 100% of tour work hours. As an office worker you need maybe 1 hour of intense focus a day, max. Most is just autopiloting simple tasks. Same for physically demanding jobs, you get used to it pretty quickly and then it's just autopilot.

Obviously gaming casually in your free time is fun and easy but you're not doing it for the entire day, six days a week, with the expectation that if you don't perform, tou get fired.

Always easy to sit back on your ass and tell other people they're soft when you couldn't do half the shit they do.

The kick-off tournament is straight double elim with no round robin or group stage or anything. So there has to be some kind of seeding (like there was in LCQ). Now you could base seeding on last year's performance, but the Ascension teams weren't in last year's VCT, so how do you seed them? Straight at the bottom? Just seems a bit unfair since they haven't yet gotten a chance to prove themselves at tier 1 level. I feel like they should have just done a full league split immediately.

I can't believe EMEA orgs have failed so miserably in developing talent from Botswana. Huge failure on their part, finished region tbh

Yeah but the question is if they're still paying Demon1 league minimums now, because they most likely used to when he was on the reserve roster.

Nobody claimed that you said "greatly influence", as Zerphyr1 said TWICE you were RESPONDING to a guy who said Leo didn't greatly influence the decision acting like they claimed he didn't influence the decision at all. Basically

A: He didn't impact the decision that much
B: you're so stupid, he definitely impacted the decision a little bit

You didn't actually dispute the original point.

The irony in calling someone else dumb for something that they never actually said because you lack the reading comprehension...

In literally any esport or traditional sport, tier 2 competition primarily exists as a pipeline to tier 1 competition.

If any team in a second league has a good player, they'll get poached by a top league team. Obviously every player's goal is to compete with the best.

The fact that Valorant has a promotion/guest slot system is already giving tier 2 a lot more value than any esports titles with a franchise league. Although I hope after 2027 when the 5 year contracts with the partnered teams run out, we will get an actual promotion/relegation system.

He literally just reads Twitter though. It's definitely good content but I'm like 95% certain that he does not have any contacts; most of what he says beyond literally just reading out tweets is just his own speculation.

Can you reveal what your source was for the C9 claim? Or at least give an estimate for how trustworthy this source is? Because that will be crazy if it's true.

I asked a few people, most of them vaguely knew league of legends, about half of them vaguely knew counter strike

None of them really knew about esports, but a few had heard of worlds (and knew a song or two)

The thing is, for any org to sign a woman to their main roster, this woman would have to be significantly better than the available men. Players like florescent or Mary are definitely mechanically at the same level as any Tier 1 pro.

The reason they're so far behind is that they're lacking the experience, and the reason they lack the experience is that they're so far behind. Signing a GC player to a T1 (or even T2) team is a big risk which for orgs just isn't worth it.

And on the other hand for GC players it's of course also a big risk to sign with a T1/T2 org because in GC of course they have much higher job security. This is why GC is here for the development of the scene and the long term goal is to get rid of it eventually.

There's not really any good reason to assume a biological component, because many of these effects also exist in other parts of society. I'm a bit hesitant to name examples because it often involves sensitive issues. But given the current state of research, it can pretty safely be assumed that it's purely social/cultural.

posted about a year ago

Why though? Maybe Less can give a bit of an...idk....arrogant? vibe (I personally don't really have anything against him) but I really can't see how you could hate the other four. They all seem like nice people?

posted about a year ago

I think it's very unlikely that there is a biological component to esports performance. Most likely it's a mix of esports/gaming culture, biases in org structures, social aspects like interest in gaming etc.

Many trans women grew up as boys, and were socialised as boys. The experiences they made during their youth, which have a lot of influence on competitive mindset, as well as the skills they develop early on, are often more similar to the experiences of men than the experiences of women.

FNC was pretty in form with BraveAF at the time. They got 4th in Copenhagen, they definitely could have shaken up the field in ReykjavΓk as well. I doubt they would have won, but the presence of two potential top 4 teams would have definitely changed things.

100% a joke. NA instead of USA, yay in Canada, so many misspelt names, TΓΌrkiye only 4 players, BR and Argentina both having the same amount of Argentinian players (1), Kangkang and Zmjjkk listed as separate players for China. No way this is unironic.

Edit: The more I look at it the worse it gets. Demon1 in Russia is almost understandable, but Ange1?? Oof

Because if we want to see the DRX roster, we can just watch VCT. Idk I feel like if a world cup ever happens, there shouldn't be more than 2 players from the same org on any country's team (at least the major countries with plenty of players to choose from like Korea, US, Russia, etc).

"Brown" is a pretty established umbrella term for ethnic minorities in western countries that aren't black (as in, ethnically of African origin), Latino, or East Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean). It's clearly not used in a derogatory way here.

posted about a year ago

That wasn't a choke, they genuinely looked super lost on their attack side. Loud's C hold was just too strong. Remember FNC also struggled early on against Furia on Haven with the same Harbour/Viper comp. Against Furia they were able to adapt, but Loud is a different beast.

It was probably more a lack of experience against that team comp. Loud simply had a good read on the meta and were well-prepared.

Clearly specifically baiting out the vlr intellectuals into arguing that because of this one match loss, NA's 2 trophies are somehow worth more than EMEA's 5, only to then be wrong about the match anyway.

posted about a year ago

That is an absurd expectation.

Not counting support players who have pretty few FKPR (specifically D4v4i, Chronicle, Suygetsu, C0m, Boaster), there are only two players at this tournament who reach this quota: Keznit and Sayaplayer. Keznit played two series, Saya three.

Among the playoffs players who have at least 0.10 FKPR, the best FK:FD ratios are (possibly with slight rounding errors)

Boaster: 2.2
Alfajer: 1.875
Aspas: 1.72
Demon1: 1.7

Nobody else is even above 1.5. According to your expectations, the only good duelists in this tournament are Saya, Keznit (and Boaster? Haha)
