I do history and political science soo, teachers give us reference books for certain subjects
I was a Civil and we used books daily in a couple of classes. But we also didn’t buy books when we didn’t need them or one person bought the book when they were only used for homework problems
im in engineering too I usually just pirate my textbooks or the professor literally wrote the textbook and gives it to us for free
I had a professor one time literally give us a libgen link for his textbook before lol
We do, yes. But I also think most people nowadays just gets the pdf in their tablets. I prefer the physical much more tho
I have a USA foreign policy class this year so it is entirely related to my universitary course and not a political opinion #owned

here in the US, there's a bell curve where community colleges are cheap, most colleges absolutely fleece their students, and then the dirt rich top schools that give financial aid to most kids
i was fortunate to get a ton of financial aid, but i always hear people glazing schools in europe for being cheap and good
a lot of people in the US go to college not really knowing what for, and they get absolutely farmed
okay well i went to Williams - their total cost for one year is 96000 USD, and when I attended I dont think i paid over 6000 at any point. their base financial aid + book grants and work study coverage + they threw money at us during covid
I think most of the top private institutions have that kind of financial aid scaled to your household income level
but there were many, many mfs quietly dropping 96000 a year. kids tended to not bring up their finances to each other
the entire state of georgia has hope scholarship so with a 3.7 high school gpa + maintaining a 3.0 in college in state you get like 90% of your tuition paid for
University of Wyoming has a lot of STEM and AG based scholarships and has a system for Wyoming high school graduates to get paid to go to school. I had some buddies from in state that got everything paid for and most of us out of staters paid mostly for rooms and board
those books better give u the knowledge to learn magic or something cause 180€ is 💀💀💀💀💀
i unironically don't think i've fully paid for a single book on my 5 years of university
last yearI didn't buy a single one but I wanna have some for myself, not having to rely on the library and stuff
Think it as an invesment considering what are you studying. In some career is part of it, like in some communication-related careers like design (in all their subdivisions) where you spent a lot of money on materials that you'll never get back, but it's part of the path.

the hack is pirating bro. if I dont need the physical book i ALWAYS just download it from online. i must have saved like 500 aud. if you think pirating is unethical or whatever just find the author on linked in and say youre poor and ask for a copy, its worked for some friends of mine.

Do you know anyone older in the course? Sometimes you can buy the books off them for between 20-50% of the price. Also if you aren’t studying in a major where books post college are important (like engineering, medicine, the sciences, etc.), look online and see if you can find it there!
Luckily my Uni has a flat rate charge that you can opt into that pays for any books and supplies you need for a class.
Just wait for urself to get tired of the provided food and see how fast ur expenses drain when u try to buy food

have you tried to look for PDFs of the book ? usually you can find any book in the web
download the PDFs and print them out maybe? or ask seniors if they selling their notes/books, worked for me so yeah
probably but unfortunately I currently live in england so no freebies for me
its more like 20k/yr once you factor in accomodation
and the loans are ~8% APR so u can basically never pay them off and its just a lifetime tax
