Spin wanted to keep t3xture, but GE (the org) was unable to come to an agreement with him while resigning - so he went to GenG. (Rumors were later that he was asking for double his current salary, but we dont know for sure)
The initial roster was then built around monyet, but after prx (and basically every other team in pacific according to spin) made an offer for him, he wanted to leave.
The decision to go with these "weird" picks was that they didnt want to pay the "insane" buyouts (Spin said 100k as an example) for unproven t2 players. Given how the previous year failed, wanting to actually trial the players before signing them seems fair.
But again, monetary limitations.
Mind you the actual fumble was getting benkai on the roster unfortunately; Polvi and Russ were perfectly in line with how mid blazeking and LF ended up being

im a fan of VLT's ascension run myself but i dislike when ppl like thegreat overplay VCLSA's ability
the region is getting better and are probably comparable or better than JP but comparing them to SEA is farfetched for now
