i wouldnt rely on BMI too much as it's not great as an individual-person scale metric

however yes it does. being very underweight or overweight will impair your immune system leading to you getting sick more. though it's also quite likely that people who are very under/overweight have bad eating habits and dont get good nutrition (vitamins, minerals, etc) which will also make the issue a lot worse and isnt accounted for by BMI directly
