I’m starting to work as a Medical Scribe part time in a couple weeks, not my end goal tho, just need clinical experience for med school apps
I think on average it’s like 70k a year or something like that so it’s insanely expensive and each school has like a 2% acceptance rate so its really hard to get into as well
No lmao they are not subsidized by the government at all, there’s like one or two med schools that offer free tuition but that’s it
To be honest, not gonna get too political about it but there isn’t any good reason for college/med school or healthcare to be as expensive as it is
why are insulin and other drugs so expensive in america and all the prices of medical procedures, its absurd
10ml is like 8-15$ worldwide
For what it’s worth, we subsidize the insulin costs for several other countries in the world, but the simple answer is this: in America, you need to produce a synthetically identical molecule if you want to sell a generic version of it, and insulin is hard to produce synthetically identical. This means that certain manufacturers can sell alternative versions of insulin and they have a monopoly on those alternatives so they can price gouge us.
im just baffled that private companies are allowed to hold patents on such common place life saving drugs
my medicine costs 239$ in india and another 16$ to be shipped to the country i stay (I have no insurance of my own apart from my parent's employee benefits) and the same one costs lke 1700$ on aid in america with insurance

damn that sucks, I’m a CA resident which also sucks cuz from what I’ve heard, med schools don’t love out of state CA applicants
