So just today started watching LOTR 1 and it seems quite weird. Not the AV or acting but the cuts in the movie. Almost every scene feels like it was cut abruptly and a new scene was posted just after that. One moment they are doing this, the next moment they are in a different place. No smooth transition in story. Is it just me? I haven't finished the movie yet.

As a die hard fan of both the books and the movies, I will agree that one of the biggest aging points of the movie is its high cut editing. A lot of it was because of the way the started filming the short characters. It gets better in the later movies

I don't think there is any other way to introduce rings, sauron, valar, witches, elfs, dwarfs, hobbits and all the characters in short time without high cut editing

There really isn’t a better way unless you tack on a whole extra movie to do it. It’s also something Peter Jackson likes imo as an editing style. Still a killer trilogy with effects, themes, acting and cinematography that holds up to this day

Yea the movie seems good but it's the cuts that are throwing me off i dont think I have seen an edit work quite like that

maybe because you watched the theatrical release first so you found extended better. and im getting fresh into the extended version so I am watching it without any prior comparison

after the company disbands the movies are much more divided as they show you the point of view of each character (Frodo/sam, Aragorn and co, merry/pippin etc...) so I'd say that it's actually more cut I'd say but from my experience it's always felt quite natural. At least it's never disturbed me
