just to be clear, you think som is a top 10 all time PLAYER?
cause like, if it was a top 10 north american controller list i could give him top 10, if its all time player list hes maybe closer to like 60-50
Top 2 (behind mako) smokes in 2023, top 5-6 (behind Valyn, forsaken, bang, spring) in 2025. Irrelevant during other times, as a player prolly outside top 20
he was not in any way a top 3 smokes player in 2025, he was only top 3 in his own fucking region for 1 stage and thats if you put him above valyn
He wasn’t really, but if you were really stretching it impact wise he was. He put up good numbers individually before champs as well.
Tbf smokes was kind of weak role in 2025, ig you could have spring and bang above him too.
Who would you have above him internationally?
keiko, mako, valyn, smoggy, every prx player were all better smokes players at the ONLY international event s0m attended in 2025
Ur going off only stats, when literally none of those players except mako faced the same level of completion as som. Comparing stats from people who got grouped vs a dude who played successively better teams until the grand finals is dishonest, especially when the role you are discussing is smokes and not like duelist or smth
did he do anything impressive against any of that better competition? like his only contribution AS a controller player specifically is mid stats and decent util, his contribution to that win was very clearly his vibes, his midrounding help, his comms, his actual individual skill as a player was not a shining beacon for NRG during that tournament, and if you put any of those players in his situations but leave s0m in call with the rest of his team NRG have an easier run to the finals, if your couting all that extra stuff as part of his skill as a CONTROLLER PLAYER, them boaster clears cause his igling should be counted
His util was better than decent, he positioned himself in a way to get more impact from his paranoia than a lot of those controllers you mentioned (other than Mako and Valyn sometimes). He baited for his teammates or jumped for them, rather than bait as most of those smokes players do. He played harbor well, which opened up the abyss comp (Nrg was very successful on abyss in champs). His stat lines suffered from games like the mibr game (where all of Nrg struggled) and the drx/Edg games (wheee Nrg started slow).
Mada was hard entry but there was more than one situation where he baited s0m especially in the grand finals. Skuba baited or was setup by som all the time throughout the tourney.
this is revisionist history and i wont stand for it. NRG had ONE good split in 2025 and s0m was arguably their worst player for all of it
He was individually other than mada the only one shooting straight during kickoff and stage 1, so I was kind of generous.
could have def been more if his role wasn't backpack, spike carrier. But he best on support smoke
I think his utility and sneaky plays are what made him a great player, not necessarily his fraging. also he was an amazing teammate and leader
probably around top 10-15 smokes all time but more so 40-50th all time players
definitely top 10 controllers of all time... had some crazy plays
but not top 10 overall
