EWC truth (no cope)

EWC is a mickey, lets be real, but if you’re a team like MIBR or 100T whose seasons are on the line, you definitely want to try your hardest because there’s a chance that if you don’t you simply won’t see an event for the whole year

it’s not the same as a masters, but at the end of the day, it’s still an international event with good money on the line. it won’t really be counted on the same level but at least you could say that you qualified to something

which is why in truth it’s not really as important simply because of the differences in necessity of the event: everyone wants to qualify for a masters/champs event, but for a certain few, some do not care as much about qualifying to ewc (especially when there’s another event on the horizon)

Its not a Mickey. All the good teams are qualing with good prize pool. Every team is trying their hardest to win this like if it were a champ final.

It feels like the majority of the reasons people use to call it Mickey are cope, like the production being shitty doesn't change the competitive integrity, nor does the format being different (people count LOCK//IN as a major). They obviously dislike the Saudi aspect, and then work backwards to find justifications instead of being upfront and saying "I dislike this because it is sportswashing."

However, despite the prize pool, it still doesn't feel like a high-value event to me. I'd love to say we won an international event (and technically, we did) but it's just not the same as a Masters/Champs. The ultimate truth is that VCT is a closed circuit with franchised teams, and that you cannot just create your own event outside of the ecosystem and pretend it holds the same value. In 2027 we can have that conversation, when the game opens up to ESL/Blast etc it might hold importance as it fits the "high prize pool, S tier teams invited" criteria, but not right now.

teams definitely want to play for the prize pool if not for the credibility of the event, I mean who would want to pass a million even if though you consider it 'blood money'

i'd say it is kind of but not really cuz there is only tier 1 team and the same one that qualify for master etc so its not an easy tournament to win when u playing the best team itw
