cricket is funny cuz at any given time only three people on the field are actually doing anything
completely unrelated i just wanted to say that
its kinda true, for the fielding side all the fielders are active only when the ball is hit towards them or when they are sent to some other position; only the batsman (striker, non-striker), bowler and fielder (2 at max) are doing anything per ball
not entirely true, all fielders are watching the ball at all times making sure their ready to either catch it or atleast field it in terms of stopping runs. To say only 3 people are doing anything is pretty disingenuous.
if i hit towards cover the long and mid fielders won't do anything, thats why i said kinda true, not 3 people but 5 or even 6 at max out of 13 on ground
true but fielding positions are also a mind game, especially at the Test level, your position whether you sit there and dont see much of the action is playing a pretty key role.
