“Superteam”

A term that the valorant community doesn’t really like. It’s the “in theory” the best way to find success in vct both instantly and long-term, but we have seen superteams time and time again just crumble without finding any success (NRG 2024 is the obvious example, and so it Vitality 2024 and 2025). But that doesn’t mean superteam can’t work, Fnatic 2023 was a successful superteam, and although 2024 was a disappointment for fnc, the team still went pretty far in 2024 compared to other superteams, and it help fnc build an almost perfect system that allows for talents to shine like kaajak and veqaj. More recently, T1 2025 is a korean-superteam, with each players having multiple achievement and are dominanting apac rn (despite a disappointing performance at santiago). But that leaves a question, is superteam a worthy investment?

if it has been down many times before, and they have literally ALL failed, what manager in their right mind would think "hmm, it will work for ME though"

Well T1 succeeded and except vitality, superteam still made good results like lev with aspas, now MIBR also doing good

The big issue with superteams is how costly it is to even sign the players and pay them. When you become a big name, you usually want a good salary and security as well as other perks.

When yay joined C9 in 2023, they couldn't afford to keep him on and that wasn't even a superteam.

When things don't work out, you need to make change so you end up having to pay an inactive player a large salary whilst hiring in new recruits to fill in the gap and hopefully make way back to the international stage.

Now, we have seen numerous iterations of the "super-team" who were meant to win all 3 trophies with FNC being the closest to that sweep. In terms of longevity, and I know this will garner its own criticism, but how is PRX never considered a super-team given how frequently they attend internationals and have been in numerous grand finals and top positions? Of course, the whole point of super-team claims is you get the best players from multiple franchises and smash them altogether on one roster in a Miami Heat type of way, but PRX have been that strong team similar to FNC where their longevity and consistency is among the best. Yes, the caveat is PRX only have one trophy to their name, but that is more than most of the orgs.

I still think 2023 fnc isn't a superteam I mean the fact they didn't flop is proof enough

Also no it's not worth it at least if you try to make it all at once I think that's why they flop

When they added chronicle and Leo you could argue at the time that they had the best in each role in the region other than maybe senti, Alfa wasn’t as proven as nats and Suygetsu

Idk still the core were still chokers at the time and while chronicle had won in 2021 his unfortunate 2022 makes him seem more unknown at least to me
