I asked him on Twitter why he chose to play corrode over bind/pearl and he said this:

“Normally I don't answer these type of questions but I went over this exact scenario with the team and the whole team wanted to play Corrode over Bind because of many factors (recent prep, matchup, confidence levels, etc).

Sometimes we are wrong and we live with those choices. Sometimes the process is good but the outcome is bad, all good. There are some non-obvious factors that the team overlooked (we are well aware of our recent Corrode form) so we just have to improve on that. PRX played better.”

so their bind/pearl were lowkey worse than what we saw?

I don’t think that’s what he’s saying. It’s probably more so that their confidence on Corrode was extremely high despite their recent performances on the map based on scrim results and whatnot.

How do you feel confident on a map youve done nothing but lose on...

prolly because they fixed those mistakes or they think they did

My biggest gripe is not that they were confident on Corrode but that they didn’t even let themselves build confidence on Bind/Pearl knowing they were undefeated on those two maps coming into Santiago

Exactly, They 13-3'd arguably the best pearl in the world and they cleared every single time they played bind, sure they mightve been getting dogged on in scrims but its still a miles better option than corrode

Makes yah wonder if teams threw corrode scrims against G2 to make them think they were good

??? Lol the team wanted Corrode. Why would they pick Bind if they were less confident in it?

not just this masters but even last years champs against drx and many more questionable vetos

Honestly fair response. Their corrode wasn't that bad up until the event, and they probably felt more confident after they decided to stop playing the iso comp, in hopes of catching prx off guard

I mean if they were feeling good abt it and were of the opinion they gonna anti them hard, can’t blame em. PRX just decided to show they’re them

They keep letting their opponent get their best map
split against prx fnatic
bind abyss against drx
split against nongshim

split is not nongshim's best map
drx haven was their best along with abyss but g2 vetoed haven

G2 was very good on haven coming into champs, not vetoing abyss was a major mistake no matter how you look at it

i agree because it's drx abyss, but G2 was surely more confident with their abyss too. It was one of their best maps as well
G2 was okay on haven, a lot of their wins were against bad teams on it. It probably had to do with scrim results more than anything

where dambi plays neon it looks like their best map
atleast they could have banned split where they got shit on by prx and could have picked anything else
