Is muscle memory a myth?

I heard one person say that it’s better to stick to one sens and build muscle memory with it while another said that muscle memory is a myth and that practicing on different sensitivities is actually good for improving. Which of these people are right?

when i wanna play some valorant after a hard days work at the oil rig but im scheduled to set my sens to 0.000000001 in order to improve my aim in the distant future where i magically land on a normal sens

I’m pretty sure they didn’t mean that you should randomly choose among completely ridiculous sensitivities

both are right

problem with that is it's not easy to figure out which one you are

How can both be right? That doesn’t make sense to me 🫠

both apply to different people.
depends on both psychologic and physiologic factors.
some people are better at sticking to one set and defined thing, and working on and honing it, until they become very, very good at that one thing.
however, some people like to fine tune things to find the easiest way for them to improve, and practicing various things to become overall better.
this is sort of the mindset behind not having everyone be a flex player and having specialization. some people are good with having a large, set goal, some are better with many, smaller goals.

That kinda makes sense. Are there any sources about this I can read?? ^_^

Reading these made me kinda convinced that the 2nd person is more right since muscle memory seems to mostly be about fine motor control and you’re probably going to be practicing it more by playing on different sensitivities

Yesn't since both can be correct. Different method works for different people.

Is that actually true though? I thought all people learn in almost the same way

"I thought all people learn in almost the same way"

Are you wrong? Absolutely lol

Well learning styles are a myth afaik and the way all our brains function is pretty similar so I thought the difference in how we learn is actually quite small

everyone else is wrong. Sens is a fake placebo that you can scapegoat as an excuse for poor performance.

But fr I have literally seen a pros switch their sens very frequently and not get largely differing results and seen pros refuse to sitch sens. My take is that changing your sens by very little has a neglilible impact since humans adapt very quickly

I have never practiced on more than 2 sensitivities lmao I think muscle memory is smth which just happens with time

I only change sensis when I am using a new mouse for example I recently changed my setup so that was the first time I change my sensi in over 4 years of Valorant lmao

One of the yt video I watched suggested playing with variable sens on kovaaks, his theory was practising with harder methods like sens changing inside the scenario itself will make the practise harder and improve your mouse control, so yeah its a myth

its basically fully a myth the way you learn better aim is by motor control not muscle memory. the reason you are better on the sensitivity you are used to playing on is because depending on the sens muscles in your arm may be undeveloped for aiming. for example if you only use a low sens you likely never use your fingertips to aim meaning you cant aim with them, which is essential for playing high sens and vice versa with arm aiming.

That makes a lot of sense the more I think about it. But if I’m only ever playing Valorant then does switching sens to practice help more than just sticking to one sens would?

Yes! if you find yourself struggling with micro corrections you can train with a high sens to further develop your wrist and fingertip muscles, and if your wide flicks feel sloppy, or you find yourself using your wrist too much for wider flicks you can train on a much higher sens to make your default muscle that you use for them to be your arm. ig you could say that a part that might be muscle memory is which muscle you automatically use for each mouse motion, but for the actual control of the cursor its all motor control.

Wow I never thought of that! I’ll make sure use that in my aim routine ^_^

As Sinatraa once said, play on a Sens that you can control. You don’t have to follow other people’s Sens just use it as reference.

if u have a really good mouse control, you can change your sens easily

if u don't have time tho to practice your aim, it's better to stick to same sens or some small range of sense

its not a myth
but you usually get used to the new sensitivity pretty quickly

you can finetune your sens until you find the right one, youll just be dogshit for sometime
