Currently in college starting to learn coding, wanna go ahead and learn some stuff, decided to use ai to help me.
Programmers, which ai do you use or you think is the best for coding help? (Preferably free) i thought perplexity pro was good but i read that its not that good

I got Deepseek R1 running on my machine locally but if you're serious about learning how to code you should be avoiding LLMs as much as possible, much better to learn how to think and program yourself if you're a beginner as you'll make progress much faster

i am against using ai for coding or for any creative field, everyone has a different style of learning but what i felt was the best thing for me in learning to code was just mindlessly building projects and when i was stuck somewhere reading the documentations(assuming you start out by learning to build in a particular language first)

but if you want to find the resources for learning to code, i reckon chatgpt will be quite good, though i would suggest try to build some projects on your own; cuz then this will be no different than the tutorial hell which people get stuck on where they are just copying shit and not learning

tiktok propaganda i keep seeing is to build projects for a portfolio on the side using claude or ai😭😭🙏

like at some point projects arent gonna get us hired anymore cause of this

i am not concerned with getting hired, i was talking about building projects solely for the learning experience as it will teach you quite a lot

erm i dont use ai esp when i took my first programming class, data structures and algorithms and object oriented. However i did recently pick up an autocompleter extension for vscode, its kinda like the autocompleter for pycharm

im not against ai, i just dont use it for coding when im in the process of learning
