quadratic trig equations (i think that's what its called), its like the 6cos^2(x)-5cos(x)-1=0
i keep forgetting when to add or subtract 180 or 360,
solve it like a normal quadratic and then accept/reject solutions accordingly
You can substitute the trigonometric function with any parameter/variable, say t, and get a normal quadratic equation. Solve it normally then substitute the the trigo functions back. Its that simple. Plus If I were to solve this question:
1) Let cosx=t
2) new quadratic: 6t²-5t-1=0
3) factors are (6t+1)(t-1), thus roots are -1/6 and 1
4) thus cosx= -1/6 and cosx=1
5) if principal values are asked you can say that x=arccos(-1/6) and x=0
6) if principal value is not asked then you can say that x=nπ rad. Where n is set of whole numbers
i understand that part, but it then says that i need to solve for all values of x, and that's where i get fucked.
For solving such questions, my teacher told me to remember all the general solutions (like nπ)
And all the different cases and practice types of questions in those cases. I remember there were 7 cases
Yes try to remember those general solutions. If you are having a problem in that, observe the graphs of sine, cosine and tan functions and try to get the logic behind them.
General maths tip - just get in love with graphs. This will help you everywhere in maths. I had a book called "Play with graphs" and used this site https://www.desmos.com/ extensively.

Engineering, Architecture, Physics, Calculus, Computer Graphics, Cryptography and more all revolve around trig and wouldnt be able to function wo it

literally how, anything involving a periodic function is probably be described as a set of trig functions which is like 90% of the world around us
calculus i'd say is less applicable bc honestly in your normal everyday life you'll probably never have to think about derivatives and integrals but once you do anything STEM above a high school level you'll have to talk about them every single day
na I am not talking abt me or u specifically but in life as a whole its used a lot in architecture , Coumputer science , computer graphics , engineering ofc etc etc I meant work to be exact

Sorry but maths isn't the reason, Lakia's stats are so ass that's a problem he needs to fix on his own so please don't blame the wonderful study of maths for it.
don't listen to him, I used to struggled with quadratic trig equations 3 years ago. you are not stupid, you will eventually get really comfortable with it once you keep practising as many types of trig questions as you can. consistency will eventually get you far
Mostly remembering the formulas is hard enough once you learn it then it should be a little easier to understand still the sums will be tricky
basic trig is fine
but when you have to bring trig into calculus 2 the voices start kicking in
Trig sub was hideous but I lowkey enjoyed solving them. Got a good feeling of satisfaction once substituting everything back in worked out
True it's easy until you need pluck out the extra solutions I find more advanced trig way easier than simple trig ngl
