Valorant GOAT

I know this is an overused topic but, who really is the Valorant "GOAT"? I know there at least main 3 candidates for the title with those being aspas, TenZ, and possibly yay being there too.

I personally think it's Leo. I know he hasn't played a match in almost a year, but multiple pro players and coaches have been on record saying that he might be the most perfect player in the world. I know he doesn't have the flashiest of highlights, but I think that's what makes him great. Having flashy highlights mean that you've either put yourself in a situation where it seems unwinnable or your team has, Leo has almost none of that. The only flashy highlight I can think of him is that iconic clutch on Haven against that old Navi roster in like 2022.

The argument for aspas is that he has been the most consistently good player for the longest time while playing duelist. He has the accolades and the skills to be in the GOAT discussion. The argument for TenZ is that he was the best player in the first LAN, dropped insane numbers, kinda flamed out, came back and absolutely fried before retiring. The argument for yay is that he was the best player in 2022, even when other cracked people were playing Chamber he was still shitting on everyone else.

I personally think with these top 3 people, I believe more in aspas being the GOAT amongst them. He has had the longevity and all of the rosters he has been on are insanely good. LOUD won Champs 2022 and were America's winners in 2023. LEV made 2/3 of the internationals and made Top 3 in Champs. Finally on MiBR, he placed Top 3 in both Kickoff and Split 1 despite having 3 rookies on the roster.

For my Top 10 list rn:

  1. Leo (as I said before, my personal GOAT.)
  2. aspas (the success all of his teams have had is unprecedented.)
  3. Chronicle (has the most trophies at 3. Masters Berlin, LOCK//IN, and Masters Tokyo.)
  4. Derke (closest to aspas to being as consistent, bumped down from 3 bcs of his recent bad performances.)
  5. TenZ (Best player in the beginning of the game, one of the best players in the 2024 season despite wanting to retire after his terrible 2023 season.)
  6. zekken (arguably could switch him and TenZ, one of the most consistently best duelist players internationally, shaky 2023 season due to messy role changes.)
  7. ZmjjKK (Best player out of China, the best singular performance of anyone so far in the GF of Champions Seoul 2024.)
  8. t3xture (One of the best players out of SK, consistently one of the best even in T2, bad 2023 season because of GE)
  9. f0rsaken (Possibly best player out of Asia in general, went to 2 international finals but unfortunately choke tf out of them. Played hard duelist before becoming one of the best flex players we've seen.)
  10. Mako (Most consistent player besides aspas imo, just doesn't have the success factor as much as the other people on this list do.)

I know that people will say that my list is shit bcs of something, but, this is my opinion, and it can change if I am swayed or if something else happens.

Ngl people who don't follow valo kinda knows/ have heard about TenZ

That just means he's a popular streamer. He was already a popular streamer during CSGO, which is why he launched with such high popularity in Valorant.

Doesn't mean he's a goat player necessarily. He was just the most high profile streamer who took the game seriously, so he became the poster boy of valorant.

I'm assuming you're american? Americans tend to give more credence to streaming popularity than other regions.

I just meant he is the face of valo or the first thing that comes up when valo is brought up.
Objectively he is not the GOAT player of valo but again who is the GOAT, is a debate.

I think we'll have to wait years before we can determine who the GOAT is, because many people have 1 champ or 2 masters, currently Sacy has the most.
For example, in CS we were able to say that zywoo was turning towards S1mple, it took a few years for that too.

Yeah but people can't wait that long and we have to push narratives so people stay interested in vct so I guess we have to decide now despite the fact that there really isn't a real awnser

Yeah but like Sacy is never gonna be in the GOAT debate like Dupreeh has 5 majors but isnt int the Zywoo and S1mple debate, Its more about who MVPs more or has more impacts frags. But i agree we have to wait like another 2-3 years before saying anything

By the way, another problem is that in CS there are many more tournaments per year, while in Valorant there are only 2 masters and one champions per year.
This also complicates and slows down the answer

I feel there should be more Valorant, like in CS its on and on

Hot take but he should definitely be a goat contender and he isn't because most of his success was on the same team but also because it was astralis if it was anyone else on a different team they would be discussed for sure

But its like they won 4 majors back to back with almost no competition and perfect play/utility. watching S1mple and Zywoo winning unwinnable rounds or clutching is very different. Dupreeh or Magisk or Glave are like legends of the game but they're not the mechanically gifted ones

I guess so but honestly there's more to the game than shooting people if it isn't winning you much being mechanically gifted doesn't matter that much imo

I agree, they were like the G2 of CS, just perfect plays

And the debate dev1ce vs s1mple raged for like 4 years as well

I think the actual GOAT debate won't be for a few years now. With how VCT is a closed system and only having 3 internationals/year, it'll probably take even longer than CS will take. I just posted this bcs I was watching the GF's of Americas and the topic came to mind.

3/8. decent bait with good grammar but your first sentence simply gave it away, way too serious for someone who puts leo as #1.

zekken should be 10/9 in this list

Really? No offense but I personally value consistency over anything else. To me the players below him don't really match him in the consistency department besides KangKang and that's the only guy I would put above or switch him with. I know I called Mako the most consistent player alongside aspas, but he doesn't have the winning factor like zekken has, as zekken has won a masters and made top 5 in champs while the highest Mako has gotten to is a lower grand final before franchising began.

He is the Shroud of Val but actually has a trophy to back his claims and retired early just like shroud did

Meteor and Chronicle are the only people in the world with 2x Masters titles, unless we count LOCK//IN, then it's 23 FNC + Meteor

but meteor isn't on this list why
