Champions slots

8/16 spots at Champions go to teams that have collectively never won a match against EMEA/NA opponents(Record for non-kr/emea/na vs emea/na teams is 0-12). Don't you guys think these regions get way too many spots? Especially SEA having 2 guaranteed spots and a third spot being taken by Full Sense. I think having 8/16 teams more or less having a 95% chance of losing every time they face a EMEA/NA teams is a bad idea for the biggest Valorant event.

yes let's make it like cs where there's 2 regions that can ever win

#3

Or you can leave masters for developing the regions and have champions for the best of the best, or have some other better alternative.. No reason to jump to conclusions like this.

Every region in CS has had a chance to showcase their abilities. Only EU and CIS can compete because they are the only good regions

#7
GGgod
1
Frags

they are the only good regions because in the games initial days the other regions barely got a chance of play and improve with everyone else and now when they do get a chance the EU and CIS teams are already way too far ahead

#9

No way dude, there are tonnes of new players in EU and CIS. Other regions just play like shit.

#13

????? you did not understand what I meant

#16

Frags

It is not the fault of Valve or EU/CIS teams that they are too good for other regions. And they could still totally scrim in those regions, I think Tyloo is still in Ukraine for instance.

#18
GGgod
4
Frags

not every org has as much money as Tyloo that they can move to other regions to practice , smaller teams and orgs are stuck playing worse teams and barely get to improve

#14

just because players in CSGO did not have many opportunities does not mean half of the spots in the biggest Valorant event should be given for development of regions instead of giving it to the best teams.

stop
if riot does not give spot to region like japan or kr, then the scene in there will die immediately

don't u think riot already consider all of this, like for other the growth other region so valorant won't big only in EU and NA

riot already has experience in Lol for managing like this things

#5

4 Teams are enough to represent NA/EMEA tho, u dont need NA teams that are tiers below the top 2 compete in the same tournament and take away exposure from other regions
that said both NA and EMEA should have 4 guaranteed spots

#10
Lamo
5
Frags

4 teams is most definitely NOT enough for EMEA, you can see orgs in EMEA are not investing anywhere as much as orgs in other regions (except Turkey)

#12
PrTsty
-6
Frags
+

I mean yeah thats true but the VCT shouldnt be at fault because of that, its more that riot doesnt allow many third party tournaments. If there was like Intel tournaments with 10 NA and 10 EMEA teams that would be completly fine and cool but VCT should be global and every region should have enough representatives and not too many

especially in a 16 team tournament more than 4 is just too much, if they made it a 24 team champions then 6 from NA and 6 from EMEA would be fine aswell

EMEA + NA should be at 50 percent of the teams participating

#21
Lamo
-7
Frags

SEA + KR + JP getting a guaranteed 4 slots should be much worse than EMEA having more than 4 slots, using your own example.

#24
PrTsty
0
Frags
+

but its not my example, SEA KR and JP have completly different fanbases and are complete different regions, if you were to split up EMEA u could still do 3 EU 1 CIS and 1 TR but aslong as its one region it shouldnt have more than 4. it just puts 2 teams of the same region in the same group

#30
Lamo
0
Frags

except EU does not have a uniform fanbase lol. By this logic Spanish scene gets it own slot, French scene get their own slot and so on. Besides 1 slot for CIS is obviously way too low.

no u dumbfukc they all compete in the same region for the same slots u see them playing each otehr in the VCT for the VCT ur just gonna have teams that are representing the same region but are far worse than their seed 1 or 2 it doesnt make sense its useless and you could just give those slots to other regions so that they can develope. Just look at LoL.
Korea brings double the views of all the other regions combined (excluding china) and there they also only have 4 slots because there is no reason to have 15204 slots. U want every other region to have 1 slot and end up losing interest in the game? Just look at the hype around crazy racoon and the game of crazy racoon vs Gambit, it was one of the most hyped games of the tournament. Id rather watch those smaller regions having a close game every now and then instead of watching guild vs g2 for the 5023th time

Minor regions will never come close to absolute top-teams of NA and EMEA
It's better to let contenders like Giants and Guild into tournament, so minor regions teams have more chances of beating them than the likes of Gambit / Liquid

And these Giants / Guild are BY NO MEANS worse than those from Japan / Brazil / SEA / LATAM, they deserve to participate at LANs, you are acting selfish, not caring about players' careers who are good but JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH for a stacked EMEA qualifier

You want to kill the esport in EMEA with this stupid ass system, our playerbase is 2x bigger than in any other region, 4 slots is surely not enough
If it was fair we would have 8 slots

#42

VS beats all these teams 4v5

#43
Olofboost

Frags

I never said anything bad about VS?
I said Prtsty shouldn't mistreat other "outside of top-4" EMEA teams just because they are meant to compete in a hard region
It's not their fault and they shouldn't be punished for it, EMEA must be getting a lot of slots

Also all these South America teams wouldn't even be top-15 here lol

#45
PrTsty
-1
Frags
+

i never said that Guild or Giants are worse than the teams of the minor regions
and like I said there should be big 3rd party tournaments where u can have many EMEA and NA slots but VCT is global and should give every region space to represent themselves

#47
Olofboost
0
Frags
+

Well then do Europe - Turkey - CIS instead of EMEA shit
Now EMEA has 7 slots (EU - 3, CIS - 2, TR - 2), CIS and TR same as other minor regions because it makes sense

Oh wow I changed everything from 4 to 7, but it's more fair now

The more EMEA teams you allow to be at Masters, the higher the chances are of Brazil / Japan / etc top-2 teams to beat these EMEA "lower tier", there will be more close matches

#55
ItsMeDio
-2

yeah, this idiot want valorant only big in EU and NA

they don't look valorant in japan for example, big viewership
so valorant won't die soon like CS lol

#35

Imo BR and SEA should both get only 1 direct spot for champions, and give 1 more to NA and EMEA, I understand if they get 2 spots for masters, but they don't deserve so much recognition in champions, they haven't earned it yet

#38

maybe next year
we gotta remember this is the first year of competition so it is fair

#6

I think your examples are a bit hyperbolic, SEA teams have been pretty solid throughout the year so to imply they have a 95% chance of losing to every EMEA/NA team is not fair.

#19
Lamo
-2
Frags
+

Ok if not 95%, there's still a 85% chance they're losing to NA/EMEA teams. And if 50% of the teams have a 85% chance of losing to the other 50% of teams, that should not be the case for the biggest Valorant event.

#40
Blazieboy
1
Frags

We'll see if the chances of beating an EMEA/NA teams still stands at 85% at the end of the tournament. Also, this is Valorant's biggest event and is not yet over. So, keep your talks about slots after Champions gets over, Ok buddy?

Giving other regions a chance keeps things fresh and exciting. Plus other regions are catching up fast, unlike CS they don't get stomped hard. I don't want things to be like CS where it's dominated by EU and CIS with barely any Asian or OCE representation.

#11
Lamo
-3
Frags

it's not fresh and exciting if half of the teams are there with a 95% chance of losing to NA/EMEA teams

#36
Giannero

Frags

That would be fair for Masters, but at least im Champions, we should be able to see the best of the best, not developing regions, until they are able to full catch with the best teams, I don't feel like 2 direct spots for SEA and BR is fair. I fully agree with what you said if we were talking about masters tho

#15
ritdro2211

if you need small regions to grow u need to give them exposure and
you love to see a fairytale run or a crazy underdog story that is what gives sports life and keeps it exciting

#17
Lamo

Frags

they're already getting plenty of exposure at Masters events.

you love to see a fairytale run or a crazy underdog story

Yeah that should be done by underdogs beating good teams. Not by a SEA team getting to the playoffs because they beat other average teams from Japan and Brazil

#20
ritdro2211
1
Frags

you cant have an upset if you dont give them a chance as well

#22
Lamo
0
Frags

yeah so 3-4 slots should be given to such regions, not 50% of the slots. Besides, smaller teams from NA and EMEA would be a underdog story as well, like Cloud9

#25
ritdro2211
-1
Frags

if you want a scene to grow you have to show that you care abt the scene by giving them ample opportunities

#28
Lamo
-1
Frags

That scenes can grow in the Masters events. There's no need to make space for development of scenes in the biggest Valorant event.

#31
ritdro2211
0
Frags

if a scene needs improvement you need them to be on the biggest stage

#32
Lamo
-1
Frags
+

yeah that's not how it works. 16 teams is low enough as it is for 50% to be from weak regions. Maybe if it had 32 teams like the World Cup you can have space for smaller scenes.

#33
ritdro2211

what will happen if you have more emea/na teams
it would literally be regional games on the international stage which is more boring than this
atleast these teams bring new playstyles and have a better chance than other emea/na team

They should possibly increase the amount of slots available to 24 imo
so that slot distribution can possibly go like this
EMEA- 5
NA- 4
KR- 2
SEA- 3
BR- 2
JP- 2
LATAM- 2
OCE- 1
SA-1
China-2

IMO its too early to tell. there has just been 2 global events and the main event; Valorant Champions hasn't even happened yet and I feel in these early stages all regions should be given a fair chance. Only if they continue to do bad for many global events, Riot should start to think of reducing slots.

For example, for League of Legends Worlds - no Asian teams made it far in the first year as it was dominated by EU and NA but Asian teams ended up dominating and winning from the second year onwards. This probably wouldn't have happened if they limited the number of teams attending from Asia after the first Worlds.

Also why are y'all underestimating SEA teams. Top SEA teams can shit on every korean (minus VS) and japanese teams. Pretty sure they're Leagues above the South American teams too. Paper Rex almost beat SMB. SEA will become a major contender soon imo.

You give more than half of the slots to only two regions and you kill the careers of talented players from other regions, the growth of the game in other places beyond your bubble of NA and EU, but the world for you is only these two tiny places. Your opinion is the best way for Riot to kill Valorant's competitive scene and fall into eternal oblivion with its tiny niche of people asking "my goodness this game's competitive is so good, I don't know why it died so early".

  • Complains about SEA's lvl

Your analogy doesn't make sense, you leave KR out of the comparison against NA/EMEA, but complains about SEA slots who beat KR representatives.

tru tru. Full Sense was competing against already proven teams such as F4Q who would frequently take maps of Sentinels and G2 and Iceland 3rd place finishers Nuturn, so just because they haven't directly faced NA or EMEA teams doesn't mean they aren't qualified to compete at Champions.

Can't wait for SEA to beat the shit out of NA and EU teams for these iron shitters.
