To be honest, they should do a round robin format for both Masters and League Split tournaments. Divide the 10 teams into 2 groups, you'll have 10 matches played in each group, total matches in group stage will be 20. Top 2 from each group advances to the semis. Then you have your traditional semis and finals. Total = 23 matches which is lesser than the usual number of matches.
W format if you ask me...
