Recent rules indicated that teams can no longer have academy teams, so does that mean:

  • Teams can still have an academy system and announce their academy/secondary team but they cannot compete, but orgs can still develop them as a team behind the scenes and sell them to other orgs in the future (Similar to VLG competing in Tier 2 China with the EDG academy players as a packaged deal)

    OR:

  • Orgs are forbidden to have any other rosters outside of their main one.

Orgs do do that yes, develop academy players and sell them off or promote them.

Probably the former because some teams still had academy rosters before they were allowed to compete. They were allowed to compete to sort of streamline the process of promoting talent from t2 to t1 for an org. Now they don't there to be that distinction between t2 and t1. That's why I think they'll just not be allowed to compete.

orgs can still have academy teams cf EG being rumored to sign Zanks and ahm4xx to their academy
there's no reason for it not to be allowed as long as they can't compete in the same circuit

I don't understand where they will be competing if there is only one circuit though

unless they just don't play cups at all and do funhavers but that seems pointless

Probably just wherever the main team isnt

if more third party events are being held (which should happen if Riot isn't restarted) then they'll have events to play

i guess but im not sure that's happening, the total lack of information is kinda worrying me

what lack of information? Current tier 2 will merge with tier 1 due to open cups and tier 3 will become the new tier 2, which is where everyone that isn't riot will host their tourneys

the lack of information being "pgl are hosting x!" "blast will be doing y!"

we've seen absolutely 0 about what the 3rd party TOs can/will do other than "they're allowed to" which doesn't really mean anything, since the sponsor pool is way more restricted in riot games i dont think it's very profitable to host large events which makes me think they would need riot support

Oh shoot right I forgot you are right. I do wish that there are smaller events between major events so academy teams can play against better opponents (former tier 1 teams in the context of 2027)

It’s just gonna be like what 2023 EG did, they have a 10 man roster. 5 man main roster, 5 man reserve team
