Not related to what you need to get
but make sure to get into the rhythm of studying/revising early on so it just feels like a daily routine
As for what you need, for me I lowk just need my Laptop and some Notebooks

It might be different for you but 1st month I didnt really do any studying and it then took me like 2 extra months to fully get into it

What was the toughest part for you starting that major? Im also gonna start studying biology this year

It might be different for you but I had certain classes I had to take like Biochemistry and Botany which I really didnt like.
So for me it was having to go to classes for certain topics of biology that dont interest me that much

But the classes themselves arent too hard as long as you pay attention (and attend them ofc)

Only study to tests the night before. My major is electrical engineering. I do that and works very well, my grades are sky high

haha I think I read it somewhere that every person has a time where they study effectively and I think that's nighttime for you

Just kidding. My advice for a fellow engineering undergraduate is to be consistent in your studies. Even tho I like studying a lot, I wasnt very consistent. At the first two years, it worked out pretty well cuz I could understand things very quickly. But then, subjects got harder and started to struggle. My grades were always very high, but the last semester I did very bad cuz of consistency. I am working on it now, hopefully I can do the academic comeback this semester. Anyways, good luck

#26

yeah I def have consistency issues as well, I need to fix that

Also, one thing I wish I understood before is that learning is not linear. This means you shouldn't expect or aim to understand everything of a given subject at a linear manner. True learning has some level of randomness. You might learn something today, but you wont understand it completely. Then, you learn something tomorrow that makes you look with another perspective what you've learned previously. And that's when you learn the most. That might be somewhat obvious, but when you apply it actively on your own learning, its a game changer.

Not sure if my explanation was very clear, but this "not linear learning" concept has been very important to my progress

im also in engineering (chem), find ppl who u vibe with and also care abt their grades to hang out w, best bonding moments r struggling w homework or studying for big exams together fr
keep a calendar/have an efficient method of keeping track of things u need to do if u dont already
and gl!! have fun w it remember one test doesnt make or break ur future. engr is awesome

some of the better purchases was buying a headboard that has outlets for charging and an electric scooter for quick and easy movement(even tho im going to a small campus school)

that's cool I don't think I'd require a headboard

wasnt required I just was like "hmm that looks cool" and impulsively bought it and it kinda looks like a giant chocolate bar so its one of those weird cool purchases that you end up making at some point in your life

tips:
don't wait until the last minute to do things
get into good habits in the beginning
keep track of things
(these things I could get away with in high school but i couldn't in college)
exams are hell ( especially in engineering )
have fun!
good luck!

Listen to all those guys saying that you need to study routinely and implement a good revising strategy because I didn't do shit in my first semester and then the last moment the study marathons and sleepless nights took a toll on me. I imagine it'd be even more difficult for you to study last minute because there's little memorising in your major and you mostly have to consistently build upon previous knowledge and exercises. So yeah, don't stay behind in your classes is what im trying to say

#55

I'm in my third year now. I think I've had about 12 sleepless nights of studying a mouth worth of content lol

im starting my second year in a month and I've already passed my finals twice using the last minute method but i definitely have done some damage to myself going sleepless for like 50 hours and running on cigs and caffeine lol

Electrical Engineering. I thought it was easy the first two years. Now I see I'm cooked. I think your major is nice tho. This area means traveling a lot? Cuz thats pretty cool

#67
islaaa
1
Frags

coincidentally my best friend is also studying to be an electrical engineer so i have hands on experience with how difficult you guys have it. It's definitely NOT for the weak.
Also, yeah in a sense it involves traveling abroad because the main career path that comes from my degree is diplomacy which im really excited for

#60

#62

you probably will have to do that at some point but generally a good routine (both in studying and in lifestyle) should save you from that awful experience

#61

my biggest piece of advice is to not waste time.
Dont wake up and sit in bed for a hour
Dont study with friends if you know you will get nothing done(most important, I never study with friends because its always going to be just less productive, get good study habiits ,go to libraries, go to office hours and talk to your professors like they are humans not like they are some higher power you are afraid of(but obviously show respect)).
and for initial college: dont be afraid about things not working out instantly. things take time. i hated my first semester at school and now im a senior really excited about this coming year.
