like i hear ppl saying that valo is cpu based game but why is that

whats the difference between cpu and gpu based game

Cpu based games require a more prestigious cpu and GPU based game requires a lot more GPU power

cause the cpu is like hit detection and calculations that need to be perfect for an FPS game whereas the GPU is like quality of graphics which everybody has on min anyway

ahh yea that makes sense

bevause it’s not all that graphically intensive, so you naturally have better fps

and higher frame rates require a better cpu

a gpu does help obviously, especially at higher graphic settings, but it’s low workload as far as it’s concerned

had a preconception that having a better gpu automatically gives me better framerate and doesnt have much to do with cpu

https://www.vlr.gg/post/6774184/how-much-money-do-i-need

ever since i made this thread im starting to want more fps (like 240~), do u know if upgrding the cpu from the recommendation by #16 will give me the framerate i want without upgrading the gpu

i cant say for sure because idk much abt how good specific parts are
but the thing is, if your cpu is way better than your gpu then you run into a different issue called a bottleneck
which is where the cpu is doing well but the gpu isnt good enough to keep up with it

also happens the other way around

seems like its not as simple as i expected

thanks acethyw :3

if u google bottleneck calculator u can put in your cpu+gpu+ram

and it will automaticly tell u which part bottlenecks which

i mever knew theres a site dedicated for this thx :3

there are other factors alot of the time but it does give u a pretty good answer as to where your problem lies mostly

the bottleneck calcs are trash and don't reflect real life usage, never trust

The best way to see performance is YT and look for benchmarks where they show how games run. It's time consuming but that way you make sure u know how it will perform

it can be simple after you do some research on the specs

Higher Fps means faster CPU
each frame is calculation
Graphic card loads the image to screen while cpu and ram and create it so the image and textures and effects are not that intensive so if you want 60 fps any potato pc will do
But if you want 300fps you need good cpu
Smokes and site execs drop fps becuase too many calculations for the cpu to process

valorant doesnt have really any intense graphic effects that need to be processed by the GPU, but there are a lot of calculations for logic for gameplay, anti-cheat etc. that are managed per second by the CPU

its a deliberate choice to allow more people to play the game, similar to the way CS:GO was
