i am new to football so tell me something everyone, i saw lot of highlights for these peoples goals before wc and if no one passes ball to these guys they literally cant do anything ah ?
haland, mbappe both lost without even scoring....
but is messi not in same position as these guys ? i see him play from right and create chances.

Yeah so, Haaland, Ronaldo and Mbappe are mainly striker, Poacher role to be exact, they like to have the ball in their feet and like to be close to the goalpost, so they can put the ball and score more goals. This is mostly Ronaldo though because he is a bit more older than the rest. Haaland and Mbappe still are strong but as much as they like to play this Poacher role, since they are young they can press for the ball and they can do that well. Mbappe for example likes to play wing so he can press and is very fast to go inside the box and score goals, same for Haaland but he does centrally. Ronaldo doesn't do that anymore because he is old now, but in his prime, he did that.

Messi, on the other hand, he doesn't only score, he makes chances, he doesn't put the ball inside the net, he would rather pass the ball, yes, he is old, he isn't as flashy as he used to be, but he still can, and it's dangerous because it does work. Messi doesn't play wing much for Argentina anymore, he plays more centrally and when he sees a clear cut opportunity, he scores/assists. As my mom once said, Messi is a player who doesn't like to get rid of the chances he gets.

All of the players, are very good, Mbappe? He can press for days. Haaland? He can make opportunities out of thin air. Ronaldo? Yes he is old, but he comes out of nowhere flashily when nobody expects him to. Messi? He doesn't let chances go, very rare(or penalty lol xD).

Lautaro & alvarez provide so much flexibility for argentina..

Teams like portugal norway even france don't have that luxury in middle.. Demebele mostly playing wide in deschamps setup..

ronaldo, mbappe and Haaland are strikers whereas messi is a winger

these players all have different skillsets:

messi is considered the perfect all rounder:

  • he is an elite playmaker, for his team and for himself
  • he is on a false 9 role, where he drops back from the traditional forward position of strikers to pull defenders out of position
  • he has some of the best vision and positional awareness in the game, if not the best

haaland is much more of a pure finisher:

  • he doesn't create goal chances as much, but he capitalizes on the ones his team creates for him
  • he doesn't touch the ball much, but when he does, it has a high chance of ending in a goal
  • he creates a scoring threat by just existing on the field, so he creates opportunities for his team by forcing defenders to cover him

mbappe is a strange winger/forward hybrid player:

  • he is considered a central striker but usually has a free roaming position, usually along the left wing
  • he is very fast and leverages his speed and finishing as his main advantages to score
  • usually he starts on the left wing and will cut in towards the center to score

same position, but completely different archetypes

and this why messi is the goat because he can do anything
