For what it’s worth, we subsidize the insulin costs for several other countries in the world, but the simple answer is this: in America, you need to produce a synthetically identical molecule if you want to sell a generic version of it, and insulin is hard to produce synthetically identical. This means that certain manufacturers can sell alternative versions of insulin and they have a monopoly on those alternatives so they can price gouge us.

my medicine costs 239$ in india and another 16$ to be shipped to the country i stay (I have no insurance of my own apart from my parent's employee benefits) and the same one costs lke 1700$ on aid in america with insurance

i dont even qualify for any in-state tuitions bc ive only been in MA for six out of the required seven years -_-
