At least in recent years, teams that won ascension like BBL and Nongshim have been doing really well, and players picked up from tier 2, such as 3/5 of NRG and verno are incredible as well.
In other games like CS and League I think something like this would never happen, the closest we got to it was Legacy 13-3ing Vitality, but it was just a BO1, and they got destroyed later on. I also can't imagine Gen.G in League losing to a tier 2 team
I think this is more of a recent thing btw, since a lot of early ascension teams were not so good, like 2g in Americas and Apeks in EMEA, although I guess you could argue SLT Seongnam and Envy are not doing so well, but it's hard to talk about Envy when they lost their by far 2 best players

1 - Tier 1 is full of nepotism
2 - The meta changes, so some tier 2 players benefit more from this
3 - Tier 2 players are hungrier
4 - The skill cap is lower in VAL
5 - VAL has a larger RNG component than LoL

tier 2 comes into tier 1 having spent an entire year dominating, they have a big momentum/confidence diff

breaking news esports is a young person's game

picking tier 2 players over recycled tier 1 is a better option in 80% of choices

don't think of bbl and nongshim as well as other ascension teams as just t2 teams, with how the circuit is there is no other way to prove themselves
