Esports World Cup Defense:
- The Esports World Cup is an international, S-Tier Tournament - https://liquipedia.net/valorant/S-Tier_Tournaments
- $1.25mil Prize Pool
- The teams that attended the Esports World Cup 2025 qualified through VCT Stage 1 or the EWC qualifiers. There were 0 invitations. The best teams of the world at the time were playing and competing for the 1.25mil prize pool.
- ALL VCT teams have EWC as a part of their schedule a year in advance (unlike other non-VCT tournaments). It is unserious to consider EWC as an irrelevant tournament. ALL teams have plans for it before the season starts.
- Objectively, EWC is a valid tournament (close to if not equal to a Masters). Politics do not decide whether the tournament is mickey or not.
- EWC is a yearly tournament (2025 onwards til 2028 minimum). It was not a one-time tournament.
- Format:
Single-Elim Playoffs & Grand Finals (The EWC Grand Final is more fair than any VCT Grand Final because there is no 2-map ban advantage for 1 of the 2 finalists)
Consolation Final (to ensure the 3rd and 4th place teams get the prize money they deserve)
Group Stage: All winner/loser/decider matches are a best of 3 (same group stage format as VCT Champions).

Champs is 1.33 max because 12 teams to 16 teams is 33% increase
EWC right after Masters, team that attends Masters does not have the time to update their new strats, comps and the meta usually doesn't change ==> the team who fail in Masters can review their games and improve while the team who succeed often chill or go on vacation ==> loser teams are more likely to get revenge on winner teams, also there are the 4th slot of each region sit home watching Masters and prep anti-strat for EWC.
==> It's like when you prepare for the college exam, you get a C+ and your friend get an A, You coping and whining bitch saying that you will ask professor for a redo. You redo the exam and get an A. You and your friend are equal in score but never in prestige because he win in his first try while you need a second.

but teams will prioritize EWC (1.25mil prize pool) > Masters Toronto (1mil prize pool). Doesnt that mean second masters is more mickey. Also teams that are at Masters will have more practice being at an international than other teams so that kind of invalidates your point cuz they have more momentum/experience.
Also remember that FNATIC won the first 2 maps 13-4, 13-1 in the grand final. They very unluckily (chokingly) got reverse sweeped.
EWC is 0.8 minimum. 1.0 max.
Champs should be 1.5 because of the significant increase in prize pool (double prize pool).
250k increase isn't that exciting, top teams pay their player 30k to 50k a month, winning Masters for each player can earn extra 50k-60k and with EWC is 70k-80k (you even get less than in Masters if you finish in low places) also ewc just held for the first time, a baby compared to Masters, people hardly know about it. Just imagine PRX give up on their first Masters to win EWC.
Also the format of EWC is kinda cringe. you play a bo1 first in group stage, and no lower bracket just single elim and a bo5 match competing for bronze.
The biggest point that heavily decrease EWC prestige that i just have mentioned is that loser teams can learn from their loss and they have purpose to improve is to get revenge but winner team barely improve anything because they don't find any problem now, they are the best and the new map pool, new balance changes will come anyway that have high chance to nuke your current comps and strats in the next stage 2. You can see how FNC anti-strat PRX to get revenge on who destroyed them in Masters as example.
Also winner organization often give big break, vacation to their players to celebrate the victory. If you were the manager, would you put your mans back at scrims right away right after the team win a fricking first ever Masters and say EWC is 16 days away, go win it for me, yes?
The loser is getting serious but the winner doesn't.

Im not against counting it as worth something especially since its probably gonna be a yearly thing now, but only a TH fan would rate it higher than a masters. cant blame them though. memea hasnt won a trophy since the heian era
its similar level to lock in level when talking about trophies the prize pool and a consolation final might put it above lock in high key better format
