Realistically, do the 1 seeds even stand a chance? In Masters Toronto, every single one seed lost to the Swiss stage winners. In Masters Shanghai, only one 1 seed beat their respective Swiss stage opponent. Combine that with the fact that most of the Swiss stage winners are experienced veterans when it comes to the international stage (excluding M8) and a lot of the 1 seeds are not, I think it would not be surprising to see each of the 1 seeds lose to their Swiss stage matchups. Momentum plays too large of a role, and I would say that most of these matches should be at least 60/40 in favor of the Swiss stage team. What do you guys think?

BBL plays.... ( checks matches) NRG. Brother its NA vs EU I think I know how this works

top EU usually wins against NA (FNC, FPX(EU), TH)
bottom EU usually gets destroyed by NA (FUT, TL, etc)

All of them are new to the international stage and they are going against an NRG team that thrives when they have demos, are previous champs, and are heating up. They have a chance but I wouldn't favor them.

  1. AG vs G2: AG not winning

  2. M8 vs NS: marteen gonna pop off

  3. PRX vs Furia: not looking good for furia

  4. BBL vs NRG: bbl have a chance

I would argue that he did that as a show of confidence. Regardless of whether he was going to pick them or not, I would say each of the Swiss stage teams were pretty evenly matched when getting chosen by their 1 seed counterparts.

Furia has the highest of the 1 seeds to win I think. Still wouldn't favor them against a Masters winning PRX.

nongshim, bbl, and AG all have a chance to win. AG on the same token could also get blown out, but G2 haven't been convincing enough for it to be clear
Nongshim i'd argue is the favorite against M8. Insanely impressive map pool and the most well-rounded team in the tournament

G2 shows a solid level they are at, blowout cn team, neck to neck with T1. NRG/PRX game was much closer than their match against prx, so G2 is slightly below the best tier but still good. G2 can convincingly beat teams that are not among the title contenders.
(And lets just rmb AG qualify here becuz XLG threw, XLG is better than AG and we see how that went)

AG went 3-2 against XLG and XLG got 4-0ed. They didn't even win enough rounds to win 2 maps. Insert infamous Boostio comment here.

AG were inexperienced in bo5s allg AG will look much cleaner by the time there match starts

the only thing hurting AG is their lack of experience in my opinion. Individually i think they're a better team than XLG and AG has some really strong maps (Pearl, Split, Abyss)
G2 honestly shouldn't have won, or it should've been a lot closer. T1 threw a ton of rounds, including 3v5s and 2v5s, while winning or gaining a big advantage on almost every eco.
The resilience shown was great from G2, especially considering how they crumbled against PRX, but i'd say T1 lost that game more than G2 took it away

I mean lack of experience + no momentum is gonna ruin their tourney.

I don't think really any team has a lot of momentum (especially around individuals) other than M8 and PRX
lack of experience also isn't a be all end all of their downfall, almost their whole team is new players who played well on the chinese stage. they've also had over a week to settle down and relax in santiago

Well I think playing in games at an international well give you some momentum. On top of that the Swiss stage teams now are used to the crowd and the pressure. Not to mention most are veterans and have won multiple trophies either domestic or international.
