I wore them for 1-1.5 years and then stopped.
Haven't had any issues since.

the thing is, what im curious about is how severe is the shifting. if its a lil bit left and right then im fine with it. cuz hearing such a life time commitment is crazy

My dentist did gave me a retainer for me to wear every time I slept for pretty much the future after I was finished with my braces. Have been wearing them consistently around the first few months, but nowadays I kept them on and off as I saw no issues with it.

But it remains smart just to follow what your dentist told you.
