I dont understand this trend, even in S3 Viper was strong played on the map, with the recent change of controller how is it possible to go solocontroller ?

I do think you need, and it's just team didnt solve the meta (And the fact some team still play Tejo mean they are absolutely cluless about the strongest comp on the map)
astra is the only smokes agents that is a must for this map then you just play a sentinel. if you wanna go no senti you go double controller it's just how it works is all
It can either be 2ctrl comp with a senti, or 2 ctrl comp with no senti, both are greather than the current comp, especially with the reduction of smokes CD
that's genuinely pointless, the ideal comp for pearl in this current meta is honestly just

Astra
Sova/FAde
Good Balance of attacking and defensive util as well as just giving you the most opportunities unlike if you were to just slap double smokes on with a senti forcing the comp to just be heavy on defence. I'm sorry but of all the takes you have made this has to be the worst one yet unfortunately
Like in every solosmoke composition once your smoker is dead, you are in big trouble.
But especially in pearl this make no sense,
- in 2022 Pearl was her 4th best map and Breeze and Icebox where in the mapool, Viper map with 50% PR, (In comparison Haven with 3%)
- in 2023 Pearl was her 3rd best map with 42% PR, (In comparison Haven with 27%)
This is not "forcing double smoke everywhere", this is just know Valorant history, and especially the Viper history on Pearl... On a meta where double smoke where weaker than today after the nerf of smokes CD.
Can you explain to me why in the past she was not meta on Haven and know she is, while it's the contrary on Pearl ? What fundamentally changed in the meta to create that switch ?

lotus is not pearl, maps are different and need different agents to play them.
because like on haven, you pretty much always want a senti this map, but unlike haven, teams REALLY like double inti and double duelist this map
I can agree with the senti (And i'm not even sure since it's the last map where traditionnal senti are still played)
But why you need double duel that bad more than in S2/S3 ?
In 2022 the meta just wasn’t figured out too much, that’s not really relevant.
2023 most teams ran viper-harbor which was only possible with skye. rarely teams ran viper-astra. once viper nerfs came the meta was clearly double init, then double duelist in 2025.
It’s just… what are you gonna do with a Viper? Especially with the changes, I don’t like the default B attack wall as much. And are you going no sentinel? or solo yoru for flashes/entry? i don’t think lots of people play solo yor on pearl, not since tejo meta anyway.
I'm going soloduelist, either with a Yoru or without a flash, as the Lotus meta showed us it is possible, and because pro are even better as not getting flashed
Viper is stronger in def than any duelist, both in stopping rush and in retake, Viper is also really good in atk, she can help a lot to abuse the B site.
Pearl wasnt a lot in the mapool thoose last year, so we can also expect the team to not have figured out
PS : I'm nice with the soloduel, I still think sentinels are overated in proplay because it's broken in soloQ
You're not getting through any chokes without flashes. Pearl has basically never gotten no-flash comps played.
Lotus comp revolves around taking map control, specifically A. Where are you taking control of with a Viper on Pearl? Not mid. I'd much rather have the extra Kay/O knife, or entry power with the duelist.
On defense too, Waylay/Neon and Yoru means much better fighting capabilities early on in the round. KAY/O also excels at retaking, although Viper might have the edge here.
Overall, though, Viper on Pearl just seems so not worth it.

I dont see how Kayo is better at retake than Viper, and in defense I think you need more antirush than fight because of large is the map
Other maps work without flash, but Pearl in particular hasn't.
Most of Haven's picks were from double controller with a Sova, and worked cause Viper was good at taking A.
Icebox have always had no-flash comps, it's not a map where you need to get through chokes often.
Pearl is just a different map.
Even admiting you are right about flash, why not just go Yaru or Vyze to Unlock the Viper ?

Yoru's fine but again, how much solo Yoru do you see outside of the tejo meta on pearl? It's just so much better to have that extra duelist.
I went and looked for the solo Yoru comps so far this year.
VIT: Astra - Sage - Yoru - Tejo - Fade
PCF: Astra - Killjoy - Sage - Yoru - Fade
LOUD: Astra - Killjoy - Yoru - Tejo - Fade
So very niche, only cause they're playing two initiators without a flash, or double senti.
Viper may be possible on Pearl but I just don't see it.

More shocking is teams playing solo waylay or solo yoru and then complaining that their duelist has no kills
Bad Tejo players will easily get exposed and lose the map for the team. Guaranteed, seen enough already.
