Viper nerf idea

Viper's biggest strength is being able to activate and deactivate her wall and orb from anywhere on the map for virtually any amount of time. Obviously, there's no way to really take that away from her without completely reworking the agent... being able to constantly put your smokes up and down is the entire point of Viper. So naturally, the most effective way to nerf Viper is to reduce the number of things she can put up and down.

I suggest a Viper orb rework.

I think Viper orb should work like old Harbor cove in the way that it's deployed. Instead of being able to put the orb up and down, it becomes a smoke for a set 15 seconds after landing and then disappears. Once the orb goes down, all Viper's left with is the wall.

Viper will still be a good agent, and she'll see play on a lot of maps. However, this change will make Viper a much less enticing pick on some of her maps, lowering her pickrate and opening the floor for other controllers and sentinels—which should ultimately be the goal of a nerf to an agent. Any map where Viper's meta setup involves the orb will be heavily influenced by these changes. Take Split, for example: on attack, the A Ramp orb is a lot less punishing for defenders, and on defense, the mid orb is no longer useful in Mid. Therefore, either Viper is swapped out for another agent, or the way she's played is changed entirely.

That sounds interesting but I think that could make viper stronger in certain sceanarios like imagine a team is low on time or rushing a site but then viper sets down an orb which would either delay the push completely or teams have to tank the decay damage. Like being able to do that from anywhere on the map sounds insane.

It would definitely change some of how she's played but could be seen as upgrades in roundss where viper orb would otherwise not get value

Just make it still needed to put the orb manually instead of a omen alt dimension. Can't be from anywhere without lineups and it wouldnt change much apart from the fact that its now timed

No, not from anywhere on the map. This is why I specified old Harbor cove... you'll still throw the smoke exactly the same, it'll just behave like a normal smoke instead of being togglable

This actually sounds like a good idea tbh. Doesn't mess up her best ability (Wall) but its a big enough change. Just feels like i'd also get change wall cooldowns/regen to suit this change

Yeah, you could definitely adjust the toxin cooldowns. Removing the orb from the fuel system indirectly buffs the wall so I can see the timers being tweaked just to make sure the wall isn't a problem

It sounds like a decent idea but I hate it cuz it means it fundamentally changes the way split is played which I think would be extremely unfortunate

I really like how Split is played currently and I like the Viper comps way more than the sentinel comps, so that changing would be sad... but if it's for the sake of variety in how the game is approached overall then I'm all for it

They could always nerf the fuel recharge time from 30s >>> 40s, so it's in line with other smoke cooldowns

But honestly she doesn't need any changes. The main reason she's seeing much more play now is because the other flex agents are/became shit (kay/o, breach, tejo, gekko, deadlock, sage)

Buff those guys and her pick rate goes down

Still can't believe that it's nerfed so much and yet still so OP.
Back in 2021, u just plant and run away to spn with a molly lineup. The moment you hear tap, put up the orb and throw the molly, instant kill lol

Now only one molly, less dmg, no orb pickup, and faster smoke depletion.

Yeah it's wild how much less util we have and how much more every bit matters

Pretty sure Killjoy and Tejo are the only two agents now with multiple mollies (if we don't count Raze nade, Sova shocks, and Vyse thorns)
