I think they were asking in general, so like if you don’t know you don’t have to answer sort of thing. But maybe they were just asking you, I don’t know

Honestly I deleted twitter months ago so I’m in the same boat as you but from what I’ve gathered it seems a monkey emoji did hit the timeline at some point. Very unfortunate and unnecessary

why do they think amy is generalizing that about every brazilian person

“The monkey emoji is used as a racist and xenophobic slur because it draws on a long, well-documented historical tradition—dating back to the 19th century and earlier—of white supremacists and colonial propagandists depicting Black people, Africans, Asians, Indigenous peoples, and other non-white groups as subhuman “monkeys” or “apes” to justify slavery, segregation, lynching, and ethnic hatred; this trope appeared in European colonial cartoons, American minstrelsy, scientific racism (e.g., Carlton Coon’s writings), Nazi propaganda against Jews and Africans, and continues in modern far-right online harassment where the emoji is deliberately sent to people of color as a coded dehumanizing insult.”

I get why people are upset but do ppl really think that a Dutch woman of Chinese heritage is trying to imply that about Brazil? just feels like people are looking to be upset over smth

is there some "Dutch woman of Chinese heritage" shield that protects her from being percieved as racist? Matter of fact, both of these heritage does quite the opposite.
Dont ask Dutch what happened in Amsterdam or Chinese people what they think about black people

How many black people are on Team Liquid? Or MIBR? In fact, every person on those teams has a lighter skin complexion than Amy…

Or are you seriously suggesting that her thought process was: “Oh I just lost to a Brazilian team, let me go on Twitter and call all and ONLY Black Brazilians monkeys even though there are none on the enemy team”

The point most people are making is that Amy is being xenophobic towards Brazilians by using the term “monkey” which has been used against Brazil by neighbouring countries (mostly Argentina) because of Brazils high black population. The point that I’m making is why would an ethinically-Asian European know anything about South American derogatory insults?

I get it when it’s someone like Keznit and he is from the continent but in this case it really is just a nothingburger

Idk, it was just a very weird timing that the first time she ever uses specifically the monkey emoji is after mentioning a team called Made In Brazil right after losing to another brazilian team

What a timing. And its not new, our Valorant community is very used to racist attacks with the monkey as a racist slur. For example when some KRU fans were spamming this emoji on dgzin’s post after Loud vs Kru

I prefer to believe that shes not racist and people are overreacting a bit too much. But either way, the G2 vs MIBR game is gonna be interesting to say the least

KRU and dgzin situation is way different tho because

  1. There is a clear target to the attack, it’s not a random emoji on Twitter
  2. dgzin is actually black unlike all MIBR and TL members
  3. Most KRU fans grew up in Latin America whereas Amy has no ties to the region

Thats the point, the timing of the tweet made it seem like it was targetted

And the emoji has not been used against dgzin only. The slur is also xenophobic and players like Aspas and Less also received these attacks

If you follow european football you should know that this word is a common racist slur, its not a random niche thing

are people just learning that monkey emoji is used derogatorily against black/brazillians?
